^Holy cow but that would be a shame. The post office is an architectural gem that could be easily adapted into something else. The current arena could not easily be adapted into anything I can think of. I expect it would sit and rot until someone tore it down. There's got to be a better way. I know I don't have a vote in this, but I would firmly say no to that. Could the post office be better utilized? Absolutely. An alternative: leave the post office, but rent kiosks to small businesses. Or move the sorting facilities and keep only a small, local post post office. Then expand the office and parking building adjoining it into the loading area, creating more parking. Use that to replace the Kiel Center Garage. Demolish that and expand the arena into it's footprint. Sell the city office building to the Blues and use the proceeds to renovate the Municipal Court. Move the city offices into the Muny Court building. The Blues get their expansion. We fill holes. We reinvigorate an underperforming postal cathedral and get people back inside. Anyway, however this goes I do not support tearing the thing down. I do not support selling it to the Blues or LHM.
I know someone that worked there until 6 or 7 years ago. Oklahoma City Thunder play in the Pay.com center arena in downtown OKC which opened in 2002 - 8 years after our Enterprise Center. They are razing their old convention center next door to build a new multi-billion dollar arena for the Thunder to replace the Pay.com Center. But how far behind do we plan to fall before we find a way to make downtown a place supported by the metro area. It's largely why we lost the Rams. Our legislature could address this, but they barely tolerate having any metros bigger than Sedalia.
I'm not sure about OKC, but in Indianapolis, the "ring" counties actually contribute to funding the convention center and Lucas Oil through a food and beverage tax. I know this forum has discussed the fact Explore STL has been unable to sell naming rights for "The Dome", but I just noticed that they haven't even been able to sell advertising on the building? Are they even putting it up for sale? How is it possible that a large, highway-side building that before the Rams left had 15 advertisements displayed between both the building and highway sign now have none?
Is it genuinely not worth the cost of installation? I would think all of these former advertising spaces combined with naming rights could raise $1M+ in yearly revenue, right?
The more I learn about the Dome the more flabbergasted I become at what are seemingly simple things that could be easily done to generate more revenue that are just not being done. I get that top tier companies may not be interested, but for God's sake, if the O'Fallon can find a sponsor for a Prospect League baseball field that seats 3,000, I feel like it should be a low ask for the Dome, I mean come on. More people attend 1 concert at the Dome than an entire O'Fallon Hoots season.
This also makes me assume there's lots of potential interior advertising that they're also not doing? It just feels so stupid to me, just not the actions of an organization that is strapped for cash and is tasked with improving the image of the city. I have to be missing something, something that I'm just not educated on or informed about, it's not possible that they're just leaving potential revenue on the table, right? I really hope I'm just dumb.

Well said Auggie. The more you dig, the more you realize that people in positions of power (Otis, Kitty) are simply not bright people. They don’t think outside of the box, pick up the phone and call people, etc. It’s time for bright, smart people to join the fray and make a change.

A bowl game and at least 1 yearly Mizzou game are absolutely what they should be targeting with the Dome. Scheduling Mizzou vs Mo St is a little tougher to do now with the SEC’s new scheduling rules, there are only two weeks you could do it. I assume Mizzou would have to be the home team and pay Mo St to play. They did try to pass a bill like this in North Carolina, but it didn’t pass. Realistically we would have to rotate with Arrowhead I would think.
I would rather see Mizzou schedule their mandatory “quality” non conference game as a home and away series vs someone like Illinois and play it at the Dome every other year.
