I hear that they are putting in an Illy coffeehouse on the northeast corner of the existing Mayfair

^There is a whole lot shaping up around OPO plaza. The real worth of the plaza clearly remains to be seen.

Anyone have recent pictures of the tower? I haven't been able to make it downtown in the past few weeks, but wondered how this was progressing...

I hope this is true. Awesome coffee and there are only like 10 of these shops in the US.

I drove by earlier today. The tower is pretty much topped off as far as the structure goes at 24 floors. The building actually looks pretty tall when you are next to it as it has a very slender design, which always helps give a tall building some vertical emphasis.

Was in town for 2 days last week and got a chance to see it coming in on 70. Pretty decent change in the skyline. Didn't get any pics though, unfortunately. Anyone feel like getting some new pics? It would be greatly appreciated!

It looks so tall!

I'm a firm believer that downtown will hit a critical mass once all the historic rehabs are complete and we will be seeing a lot more of these in the place of empty lots downtown.

Fantastic update. I'm very curious to see what they are going to do with all of the exposed concrete. I've been expecting something new every update for the past 4 months now. Really hoping it isn't just being painted, that's a whole lot of concrete.

^I have the same concern. But, with such a quality project I have faith that they won't be cutting any corners with it. What a great addition to downtown. Even if it is a slim building on the edge of a plaza, those pictures really make it look like it adds to the density of the area too.

^Nice to hear I am not the only one. I agree about the corner cutting, but it is just so hard to tell from the renderings. Anyway.

About the density, this definitely makes the entire opo area. I feel like this is always the case with slim buildings/towers. They make it feel like they need to be squeezed into every last parcel of land. Basically the definition of density. Extremely nice to see in our amazing city.

The exterior will be a complete shell, all signage, lighting, stonework, etc., minus the concrete being painted. This is a bit unfortunate, exposed concrete is never a good thing in our climate.

^ I am having a hard time deciphering that (sorry). Is there or isn't there going to be exposed concrete?

All concrete will be left unpainted

Ok so when you say it will be a complete shell, you don't mean something covering the concrete, you are referring to the concrete itself as the shell?

And I gues I should also ask, where are you getting this info?

Thanks.

This is getting overcomplicated. At this time, the portions of the project that will be completed are referred to as "core and shell" meaning all but interiors will be finished. The exterior of the building was designed to be concrete and still will be "just" concrete. The only difference from the original design is that it will be left unpainted for the time being. There are some areas that will be stone clad, such as the areas around the ground floor entrances and penthouses. I know because I work for the design firm of the project, Trivers, and am working on the documents as we speak.

Good news.

I spoke with architect Joe Brinkman at Trivers and Associates a few months ago about the height of the tower. Joe, informed me that it was 298' to the roofline. As the tower is now pretty much topped off, I noticed that there is a structure that rises above the roofline on the west-end of the tower. So I called,Joe, back today and he informed me that the parapet of this structure is 312' above the street level and re-confirmed that the roof height is 298' above the street level.

Roberts Tower height from street level:

Roofline 298'

Structural(to parapet of boxy structure on the west end of tower)- 312'

Man, that penthouse has HUGE ceilings. What are the odds one of the Roberts has dibs on that?

(side note, killing it today Moorlander

I know we have info that the concrete is just going to remain as is, but with the amount of exposed concrete on this building I refuse to believe it will be left. 2tall, any chance you want to speak to that architect again just to make sure?

^ I was actually just thinking the same thing about the concrete. Although I realize the actual building can definitely differ from the rendering, the one on the website shows it the concrete with some sort of a tan stuco/stone-ish finish to it. Let's hope that's true!
