Went by the site earlier today around 2pm. Didn't see any activity and the gates were shut.
There was activity this morning. The crane was moving and there were workers installing a safety rail on the floor above where the windows stop, maybe prepping for the next floor of windows to be installed? There were also workers on the roof. However, there were probably 10 or fewer workers.
YES! I'm glad this is going back up. This would have been a real black eye to downtown if it would have foreclosed. People would have immediately said that it was because there was no housing demand downtown (when we know that is not true). The Roberts are still stupid for not pre-selling units.
New pics from January 23. Not the greatest due to the fog, but beggars can't be choosers.

I'm jealous you got a tour of the Arcade.
I like the fog in the pictures. RT is a great looking building from the south.

My wife and I had a chance to peek at the shopping arcade inside of The Arcade Building when we looked at the display unit on the last major loft tour downtown (fall 2007, if memory serves me right). I have a vague recollection of the place from when I was a child, so it was cool to see the shopping arcade once again. Not unlike the Kiel Opera House, there would be a lot of work involved to restore the beauty of the rich and intricate architectural details inside, but then again, everything was surprisingly intact considering how long that space has been dormant. I wish I would have had my camera at the ready- the mobile phone camera I had back then sucked so I didn't bother to try taking pictures.Moorlander wrote:I'm jealous you got a tour of the Arcade.
I really hope we'll see progress there and at The Alexa in addition to Roberts Tower- it's so crucial to get some life on all sides of the OPO ASAP!
I just hope this project is going to be a "go" again. With the Roberts Brothers, I think we can never be too sure.I like the fog in the pictures. RT is a great looking building from the south.
Walked by there today. More glass is being installed on the east side upper floors that haven't been completely enclosed yet.
no units sold.
contractors havent been paid in 1/2 a year.
contractors calling it quits in March.
Im going to guess this will be a long pause.

Donetown. You are so cute.
These things take time.
If only the Roberts made an attempt at marketing these condos...

no body has money, and no body wants to lend the money... to downtown.

Had coffee in the Mayfair coffee shop. It opened today. Was told by one of the employees that the tower is now going to be hotel rooms except the top three floors which will be condos.

They should make it a Hotel Indigo and drop their plans to tear down the buildings at 10th and Locust.vollum wrote:Had coffee in the Mayfair coffee shop. It opened today. Was told by one of the employees that the tower is now going to be hotel rooms except the top three floors which will be condos.
I've been told by a good source that plans for the Hotel Indigo on Locust have been dropped for now.
NOW is the time to save the two commercial buildings on Locust.
It was idiotic for the Preservation Board to approve demolition and allow them to strip the buildings in preparation WITHOUT funding in place.
There is no reason to tear down these buildings for an entryway. A new building? Maybe. A flashy entrance? USE the one the building already has.

Vollum, I was told the same when I visited the Roberts' Cyber Café at the Mayfair. A few PICS
Found some neat new images of this project on Google Street View.

Quite the difference now with the OPO Plaza and the tower going up! Let's hope we see some steady progress with the building.

In response to the Roberts Tower turning into a hotel.
I've talked to one of the project managers, and he says thats a rumor he's never heard.
1-2 levels will be a restaurant and lobby, the rest will continue to be condos and the top floors will be a gym.
