Maybe when the tower is finished more people will bless the area with thier presence.

The opening of the Schnucks will help as well, and if the Roberts Brothers ever find a tenant for their loft building across the street, that will help activate the area as well.

It appears that the tower is following the rendering fairly closely, with exception of what appears to be the 4th floor. In the rendering the 4th floor is a very tall floor, but in real life the 4th floor is the same size as floors 5 and up. However, in the rendering the 2-3 floor area appears to be much taller than in the rendering. Minor, but just something that I noticed

I have an actual elevation drawing of the Gateway Hotel, which shows all of the heights of the various floors and everything. So yesterday I drove west of downtown and a little north of the Wachovia headquarters and got a decent view of where the top of the 18th floor of the Roberts tower was lining up with the Gateway Hotel. The top of the Roberts' 18th floor is right about halfway between the top and bottom of the terra cotta colored colums near the top of the Gateway Hotel. When I got home I looked up about how tall this area was on the elevation drawing of the Gateway Hotel. From this I was able to get a fairly accurate current height of the Roberts Tower at 220 feet- the top of the 18th floor.

I then went into the rendering of the Roberts to the top of the 18th floor(being conservative I took height off of Roberts to make the 4th floor equal to floors 5 and up) and found what percentage of the tower the top of the 18th floor was and then noted that it is roughly 220 feet. From here I estimated that the tower will be 320 feet to the top of the 25th floor.

I then talked to one of the workers on the ground who said he believed the height was going to be 327 feet.

Seems like a lot of work just to do that.

Exactly. This space is much more passive than Citygarden, and therefore it's much more suitable for special events and that's when it will seem most alive. However, once Culinaria/Schnucks opens, I think people might be a bit more inclined to get lunch there and take it to the plaza when the weather is nice.

I was expecting the massive screen to get much more use since it is the dominant feature of the plaza. I'm not sure that it really matters what was showing on the screen at any given time, but just about anything for people to stop and take a look would suffice. (The video screen at Citygarden is much smaller, and I was too enthralled with the art and water features on my visits there to tell you one thing that was shown on it, but it gets people's attention!)

Back to the tower per se, it is looking great, but hopefully we'll see more signs of life in the plaza before it opens since it may still be awhile before buyers move in and the main level restaurant/retail space is filled.

You also have substantial future residential fronting the square - the activeness of City Garden likely wouldn't be as good a fit.

^I think people would like to live outside an active area like City Garden -- and I only hope the Paza gets that busy.

This will happen eventually when the Chemical and Arcade get tenants. Oh and if the Century was still there we could have had residential and parking...

You guys are going to $hit. I called the architect, who explained to me that the roof is going to be flat without mechanical equipment, so there really isn't any "mechanical" height so to speak, so he went ahead and gave me the structural height of the building....

Drum roll....

298 feet

Missed 300 by 2 feet! doh!

In all honesty, this building is going to beautiful though and should be tall enough to be seen on the skyline.

Here is the latest rendering, which differs slightly from the one that has always been posted. You'll notice that the 4th floor is the same height as floors 5 and up, which differs from the first rendering- the 4th floor was nearly 2 stories tall. The top is a little different, too.

I'm sure from certain angles it will be seen in the skyline, not changing it but adding some points to the density team scoreboard. =D>

I took a photo of downtown from the roof of the City Museum last weekend. You can see the Roberts Tower and the crane. I should have zoomed in a bit. It currently looks to be about the same size as as the Renaissance.

Time, thanks for posting the pic. It's really hard to get a good perspective on how tall this tower currently is as there aren't too many views west of downtown where a person can see the tower's current height. The rooftop structure, sitting atop of the green sloped roof of the Renaisaance Hotel(Gateway Hotel), is slightly over 260'(I have the blueprints). Keeping in mind that your photograph is slightly tilted, I would think that the top of the Roberts should be about as tall as the beam that is sticking straight up in the air, just slightly below the horizontal crane "arm", so this should be an excellent addition to the skyline.

I can work on altering the pic, if you'd like (zoom and straighten). I put it up kinda quickly last night.

I agree it should be about where the bottom of the crane is, which would be nice. Even at the current height, I was pretty impressed.

From the new patio at OverUnder you can clearly see the crane.

Thanks for the enlarged pic. From the Gateway hotel blueprints, and factoring a little distortion in due to the Gateway Hotel being closer to the camera, I would say the Roberts is right at 250' in this pic. The finished tower will probably reach to where the crane's control pod.
