I've seen his posts in some of the STL Today comments. Is he mentally ill?zun1026 wrote:AKA kielmanMattnSTL wrote:Let's not get Goltermann too excited.shadrach wrote:I saw that and sent the link to my brother in ATL. Who knows. They guy obviously like the performing arts, seeing as he comments about Kiel or the like in almost every thread related to STL. I am to the point of hating Peabody before it even opens because of him. JKthe central scrutinizer wrote:

Still, he doesn't stop. He believes that the Keil could have saved the city if we would have revived it earlier. So mentally ill? Maybe. Mentally challenged? Probable. Biased? Definitely!
^He's opening a Keil memorabilia booth at the new antique mall in the Ozark Theater in Webster Groves.

^ He has an important point to make, but the assertions aren't backed up by, well...anything at all. As I understand it, having the MUNY and Kiel open every night would bring back the entire city. Not sure where this comes from. Cleveland has an incredible Playhouse Square - high concentration of theaters, etc., their symphony is amazing - the city can't be "saved" by these things. Ed continually asserts that Kansas City will surpass (whatever that means) STL on the day the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts opens. Whatever.
And thats why I joke that I can't wait for the Kiel/Peabody to open just so we can see the benefits and he can stop talking about it.Alex Ihnen wrote:^ He has an important point to make, but the assertions aren't backed up by, well...anything at all. Yeah, the arts in Cleveland as a whole definitely surpass Saint Louis in quality, so the arts can only go so far. But Playhouse Square certainly has given a big boost to downtown Cleveland over the years and was a catalyst for ensuing investments elsewhere downtown. I'm also optimistic for big things in Grand Center in the coming years... the Metropolitan project will remove a huge eyesore and is something to look forward to. Maybe they can even do some infill with a grand Father Biondi Museum of Fountains.Alex Ihnen wrote:^ Cleveland has an incredible Playhouse Square - high concentration of theaters, etc., their symphony is amazing - the city can't be "saved" by these things.

What's bizarre is that if you read his comments, he makes it sound like the city won't be saved until we reopen the Kiel Opera House. It's as if he doesn't know it's happening right now.zun1026 wrote:Who knows. For the record, he's moved on to the MUNY - claiming that if only it were open many more nights each year, that...yep, St. Louis would be saved!

Personally I'd like to see the Sun Theater get redone, and it seems like a logical next in line after the Peabody (closely followed by the Baptist Church across from the Pageant). But for some reason I don't think ranting on every message board possible would make it happen any sooner.

This project is in the very early stages, and is far from a done deal. Anything happening with this is "at least a year away".downtown2007 wrote:There are plans for the Sun Theater...wabash wrote:Personally I'd like to see the Sun Theater get redone, and it seems like a logical next in line after the Peabody (closely followed by the Baptist Church across from the Pageant). I am pleased to see Wilco will be coming to the Peabody October 4th. This will be my first time at the Peabody and what a treat to see a former Bellvillian on the newly renovated stage!http://pitchfork.com/news/43034-wilco-a ... fall-tour/

I wonder if Wilco will be the first musical performance at the newly refurbished venue? I like the history. Bellevile boy does good. The Roger Daltrey show is on Oct. 8.

^They need to start making NextSTL T-shirts so we can ID, meet, and high five at tasty shows/locations.
Nice start to Peabody Opera House. Aretha Franklin and Jay Leno.
