Never saw that one before. Very cool.

This might be jumping the gun, but I thought I'd ask since this is an excellent news source...
I believe the opening is scheduled for March 2011 correct? Does anyone know if there have been any shows outlined that will be coming here? I'd like to know to get a jump on ordering any tickets if that's the case.
Thanks.

^I have no info to answer your question...sorry...but I do know that on the Peabody OH website there is an option get on an email list to receive updates and news...I signed up back in the fall and have yet to receive anything...
The July 12 Press Release and website advertise a Fall 2011 opening. The website is also advertising How The Grinch Stole Christmas tickets for December 2011, but I'm sure there will be some grand opening concerts/shows/celebrations before then.
The West End Word also gives the impression that the opening date is in Fall 2011 with How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
The article also mentions concerns about overlap between the Peabody and the Fox, but it's pretty vague:While Brooks said that construction is on budget and on schedule, he added that at this point it’s impossible to pin down a completion date more exact than September to mid-October. Urban said that he’s met with Brooks on a regular basis for updates on construction so that he can plan a “red-carpet wingding” for the grand reopening. Most likely, however, plans for the opening will be announced in February or March.
There will be more side theaters than I realized. It seems like it has the potential to add activity to the area even when there's not a big show:Urban’s plan calls for a focus on musicians and comedians, as well as touring Broadway productions and family shows along the lines of Sesame Street Live. The mix seems to be remarkably similar to that of the Fox Theatre, and some have questioned the wisdom of having two venues providing like fare. But Urban said that it’s the goal of SCP “to be additive to the market” and avoid going head-to-head in programming. “We’re obviously being mindful of the Fox and the Muny. I don’t think any of us look at it as a zero-sum situation, that whatever the Fox gets we don’t and vice versa,” Urban said. “We respect the role the Fox has had, and I think there are a handful of titles each year that would work for us at the Peabody.”
Once complete, the opera house will also have three side theaters that will be available for social events such as weddings and charity functions. Urban said that he’s already received several calls about renting the spaces. A fourth side theater will be transformed into a VIP lounge, complete with concierge service and separate entrance.
The developer for this project, Optimus, has been posting photos of the construction on their website. Check out the link below to see:

From the Beacon, Blues sale wouldn't bring down the Peabody Opera House:
About parking:Blues owner David Checketts, also chairman at SCP Worldwide in New York City, announced last week that he and the other investors are trying to sell the Blues hockey team and their lease at city-owned Scottrade...Those involved with the momentum and construction work underway at the opera house say that it will keep going. no matter what happens at Scottrade. “The lease for the opera house will not be part of the sale,” said Eric Gelfand, a SCP spokesman. “Everything is going well. Everything is on schedule, and on budget,” he said. And, he added, Checketts himself is “as enthusiastic” about reopening the opera house “as when he first laid eyes on it.”
William Kuehling, a spokesman for the city treasurer’s office, said those discussions are focusing on making use of some 6,000 existing parking spaces in garages and on lots within walking distance of the opera house, rather than building another new garage.

Peabody, Arch, Gateway Mall, etc. - let's work together to get a downtown-wide integrated parking system that displays available parking and points visitors the right direction. This would cost much, much less than building more parking.
The more obvious truth is that Downtown needs a comprehensive zoning/development plan and it strictly needs to follow that to yield quality development. The 4 parking garages that surround "Ballpark Village" and the stadium should all be demolished and turned into mix used developments. The southern part of downtown is a dead zone and utter disgrace. We should strive for the Washington Avenue feel in all parts of downtown.
I wonder if they'll try to set the schedules of both the Peabody and Scottrade so there aren't events going on at both places at the same time? Or will they give it a shot and see what happens?
Madison Square Garden and the attached theater have events on the same night, but this is New York City we're talking about.

19,000 at the Scottrade Ctr AND 4000 at the Peabody might be a bit much for a lot of people to deal with.

^Still way less people than a baseball or football game.... Or baseball and hockey the same night.
Sounds like we may need additional parking at the Scottrade/Peabody complex...
Soooooo kidding...lol...I bet they can pull off two events...especially with teh new garage at Park Pacific...

True. Tuesday night had both hockey at Scottrade and baseball at Busch.MattnSTL wrote:^Still way less people than a baseball or football game.... Or baseball and hockey the same night.
Has it been established the Park Pacific garage will include public parking and not just for building residents?RobbyD wrote:Soooooo kidding...lol...I bet they can pull off two events...especially with teh new garage at Park Pacific...
Park Pacific has 230 apartments and 45,000 s.f of office space. The garage has 580 spaces. Once the building is fully occupied there might be about 100 open spaces available during the day and around 300 after 5 PM (guesswork). Probably a little more in the coming years. Not sure if they will open the garage for daily public parking but using it for event parking after 5 and in the weekends seems like a no-brainer.
If you haven't taken a peek at the construction pics from Peabody Opera House, take the time...It's quite beautiful already...The grand ole lady is coming back to life!

I'm hoping St. Louis gets even more theater and concert options with the Peabody online...

PD is reporting that one of the first concerts (10/8) will be Roger Daltrey of the Who. He will perform songs from the Who's album "Tommy."

If you have events the same night, then maybe more people would ride Metrolink. Could be a positive.
I saw that and sent the link to my brother in ATL. He's going to see Daltry in Alpharetta and is planning on coming up for the STL show. Not even open yet, and the Peabody is attracting interest from locations beyond!moorlander wrote:PD is reporting that one of the first concerts (10/8) will be Roger Daltrey of the Who. My dad saw the Who perform Tommy at the Kiel when he was younger. I was always jealous...maybe we can both go to this show.moorlander wrote:PD is reporting that one of the first concerts (10/8) will be Roger Daltrey of the Who. He will perform songs from the Who's album "Tommy."

I never saw The Who or any of the various solo acts live either. I may try to get to this one.
