STL Biz Journal is reporting Restaurant/Brewery, possibly interested in Bevo Mill. The article cuts off after a paragraph, for subscribers only.
I wonder if this is in fact a brewery, if the brewer is one we've heard of or a new one. This is would be perfect for Kraftig, for now. Grants Farm may be a bit much. Billy could transform Bevo and still revitalize a property, that has family ties.

Billy, please take note!!!

I heard on the news this morning Vin De Set was looking at it. Not sure if the super upscale model would work well there but they could be looking at a different concept for the place as well.

Personally I think the craft Brewer market is a little saturated. It be could cool to see a successful one expand here (Civil Life?) or something like a Urban Winery (similar to Little Hills Winery in St. Charles). I like it for the Kraftig home base as well though I doubt Billy will turn his attention from Grant's Farm.

Why do you think it's saturated? Are any of the craft breweries struggling/closing? Seems like most of the news is about expansion.

^Six Row closed and I think Morgan Street closed (?). But yeah, the market/industry seems to be pretty healthy.

I actually think as long as the steady trend of light beer to craft beer continues to happen... I think craft breweries still have a long way to go... with Big-beer still owning a huge majority of the market that continual landfall means a steady shift to craft.

We had 32 breweries in St. Louis before prohibition. We had 872K people in St. Louis city and county in 1920. We now have 2.8M in the metro and also a healthy tourism market... I'm secretly hoping that means we could have a brewery on ever street in 20 years... #pipedream

Interesting to think about what the ceiling of craft beer is though?

Well, the location seems pretty fantastic to me and quite a few of my U City neighbors. We've been pushing hard to get some new development along Olive, and things are now starting to happen (new and renovated retail storefronts, streetscape improvements, temporary sculpture park, etc.).

It's worth noting that U City turned down several proposals for lesser-quality, auto-centric retail at this location. While we didn't get the mixed-use retail/residential building that was hoped for, this is a step in the right direction. The people of U City are determined to re-make this stretch of Olive as a more inviting destination, and Senn is a huge win for us.

From what I've heard about Six Row, their closing was more indicative of the owners' lack of commitment to operating a brewery, as opposed to a reflection on the local microbrewery market. Fortunately, their head brewer was hired by Pappo's, which uses the Six Row facility to brew for all of its restaurants, so I guess everything worked out well.

I think Morgan Street is still open. I hope they can find a buyer - the restaurant/brewery is nice, and I believe they have a canning line.

Thanks for the insite Framer. That stretch of Olive isn't too far from me in Clayton and It would be nice to have more quality development there. If you were able to, along with the city, deny poor developments you must have a strong organization up there.

Pappos has great food and a few pretty good beers (some need some work) brewed on site. If you haven't been I recommend it.

That's also what I heard about Six Row also - I think the Morgan Street Brewery was always a night club before a brewery anyway. I think they tried to pivot a few years ago, but they'll never shed that night-club feel I don't think... unless they sell and/or rebrand of course.

MSB was the place to be age 21-25 for me...you could do it all there....have drinks and dinner downstairs around 8pm, move to the 2nd floor for a few games of pool than around midnight head over to the club. :) stopped going there and the landing in generally around age 26 in 2012

^ i almost left a comment regarding the "city of 320,000" bit but then figured why bother. it's not like the other 2.5 million people in the metro don't also support the local beer scene. nice piece over all though.

1711 Locust or Morgan Street Brewery would be good places for a Museum and tasting room.

Anyone heard anymore on the Senn timeline? I'm currently looking to close on a house just off North and South and am delighted to see that a brewery will be opening up in the neighborhood. I think that area is seeing a bit of a boost thanks partially to the Clayton CBD boom.

Welcome to the 'hood, Warwickland. The Clayton boom is definitely spreading north into U City. Lots of new residential infill popping up, and U City government is pushing hard to draw new commercial to Olive.

I don't have any new info on Senn, but U City is talking them up in their Request For Proposals for the redevelopment of Olive and Midland. I posted these links in another thread in case you missed them:

I caught those, thanks!

Also, I thought I saw some work being done on those tiny storefronts that face Gannon behind Momo's off North and South. I wonder what might be going on there?
