I'd be happy to see this thing dropped at Grand and Chippewa.

It is kind of weird now that you mention it that there's no brewing presence on Delmar, South Grand, or Euclid. I would assume that has something to do with the upfront cost of brewing equipment requiring locations with low rent. Urban Chestnut's place in the Grove is an exception because it isn't a start-up location.

The breweries in the city have started in old warehouses with lots of extra space. Not a lot of those buildings with wide open space in those areas. Most buildings are already in use.

Skinker becomes the boundary as you go north into the west end, but it's at Limit Avenue in the Loop. All the buildings fronting Skinker along the park south of WUSTL that are in the city, along with a few of the houses behind them. There's a handful that are split down the middle, and there was a lawsuit 30 years ago or so involving Clayton and a resident who wanted to claim residency because their back porch and sitting room were in Clayton but the main part of the house was in the city.

Another new one!
Former Perennial Artisan Ales brewer Andy Hille plans to open Rockwell Beer Co., a 15-barrel brewhouse and production facility in St. Louis by the end of the year.

No specific location has been announced yet, but Hille has his eye on a stretch of Vandeventer Avenue in the Forest Park Southeast Neighborhood. The 12,000- to 15,000-square-foot space will include a 2,000-square-foot tasting room with 12 taps, a retail store and a large outdoor patio.

There was a time when I would come home and my brother and I would try to hit all the STL breweries. It's a sign of tremendous growth that now I only pick out my favorites as there is simply too many to get to.

It'll be interesting to see where this lands, but as I've said before I think there really is potential to make Vandeventer a thriving district all the way down to Kingshighway. (Of course, it would help if the city paved it. Currently a moonscape east of Tower Grove until you hit the smooth, baby bottom pavement of luxuriousness around IKEA.)

The business journal quotes an aspiration that the $2 million brewery be the flagship business in the neighborhood. That's a very strange thing to read if we're talking about all of FPSE. I'll agree with it for that stretch of Vandeventer or even the wider plug tobacco district, but being the flagship for the Grove is a tall order if you're on a side street.

Now Rockwell just needs to tie their origin story into rock springs or whatever the spa district at Vandeventer and Manchester used to be called. I don't remember.

Anyone think he is talking to Green Streets on its proposed development on the commerce bank site. Doesn't seem like the best fit but at same time Green Streets doesn't have a grocer lined up if not mistaken. Would be on opposite end of Urban Chestnut and just off Vande within distance of CORTEX/Ikea & Lawrence Group not to mention a quick trip over from SLU medical school, etc.

Then why bring up UIC's stuff on Tower Grove Avenue if they're still mainly going to be on Manchester?

Anyway, being able to throw down two million on a brewery next to an existing large brewery is an incredible turn of events I would not have predicted for the Grove five years back. If you count the location of the Modern Brewery, that's a whole lot of beer along a relatively short stretch of road.

Don't think so as they plan to open later this year; there may be one or two possible places on Vandeventer north of Manchester, but my hunch is they are looking south of it. (And you are correct about no grocer for the Green Street project but I believe they will still have 10,000 sq. ft. or so retail space.... an article mentioned grocers said not enuf density/demographics quite yet.)

Senn picks the now vacant lot at Olive and N&S for their brewery - I actually like this location - Olive has potential - Pretty close to the dense part of North Clayton, could help facilitate a more pedestrian environment in an area that is mixed between suburban and light urban existing building stock - Will have to wait for the site plan

Let's hope they honor their hometown and put University City, MO on the label. I love that Excel honors Breese and used to be proud when Stag said Belleville. I like to see the suburban towns get their due (think Ferguson brewing). Civic pride should be lauded in the small towns and cities outside of St. Louis.

Not exactly St. Louis, but I'm travelling through Amsterdam and ran into Boulevard Tank #7 on a rooftop bar. We were very thrilled to see this! Other than 2 west coast IPA's we saw in Ireland this was the only "craft" American beer we've seen in 2 weeks.

Kind of a neat little thing for a Brewery.

UCBC "We recently broke ground on our new Urban Garden at the Grove Brewery & Bierhall, which will be used to directly source ingredients for our kitchen and bier. We have also just committed to 100% renewable energy through the purchase of Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) & our on-site solar panels. ‪#‎groundbreaking‬ ‪#‎EarthYear‬"

Bet they won't plant a single chestnut or hop tree (not that hop trees have anything to do with beer but uh... giant swallowtails...). I'm still confused by Urban Chestnut's lack of chestnut shaded drinking areas. The American chestnut tree is a poster child for ecological restoration and urban food forests. How are they not on top of this trend? The Grove needs a chestnut grove!

It's a good cause (http://www.acf.org/#) and tasty too.

Also, what ever happened to UCBC adding some murals/art to the side of their building (past the patio). Those stone walls are mighty boring.
