roger wyoming II wrote:^ awesome.... thanks much. As for the Stock House, it would be great if that original arch work could be restored/replicated but it is so much better now with that white paint gone.
yep, and the cornice elements too.

Anyone heard anything about Schlafly's expansion lately? I'd love to see them double down in St. Louis vs. the County or more out of state operations.

^ Good question. I know there was speculation that the Green Street redevelopment at Carondolet Coke might be a potential site but it doesn't seem that they have anything imminent there. Hopefully it works out somewhere in the city and sooner than later... I'm also curious about the on and off again rumors of Cathedral Square's plans at Holy Corners.

RW, I would say things with Schafly went even quieter when they hired a new guy to run the show. As far as South City site, I would be glad if they held back on things if they were going to wait out for a N. Riverfront brewery near a new Rams stadium!!! Heck, move the tasting room to the power plant and build the brewery itself farther up the tracks

On a different note, NPR's all things considered had a great little piece yesterday on Lemp's history as a follow up story to the ABInBev. It was a nice break from Northern Cali fire stories on my commute home yesterday

Civil Life buying the lot w/ the garage to the north and expanding - Looks like new build attached to the existing building.

Edit: Reading more there are no pressing plans for expansion - will be parking and future expansion down the line

"meh" on all levels: beer, food and service. Tried to go in with an open mind but everything was underwhelming.

Looks like a new brewery may be coming to Maplewood - Not identified yet but going into the old St. Louis Closet Co building on Manchester

Double the production at Schlafly! Send in the tanks!

And this doesn't change plans for third brewery.

^ RW, get the impression that a Schafly's third brewery is now a long term plan instead of something the area will see anytime soon. In addition, I think their urban farm idea is dead. I think they pulled back from their vision when the new was executive brought in and the announced expansion makes a lot sense for bottom line considering the capital expenditures for capacity is limited to additional tanks within the existing facility and added shift(s). Has to much more cost effective then going after a new facility outright.
.
I like the cotton belt idea. North Riverfront National soccer stadium incorporating some of the GRG, north riverfront trail ideas proposed by Rams stadium task fork/rendered with a Schafly Brewery next door utilizing the old cotton belt building even if it just for looks, cold storage, etc..

^ Comes to mind that a scaled down version of the urban farm brewery could make imminent sense in that riverfront area.... it could pick up some of the pieces of the apparently stalled out FarmWorks project and build off of the Bissinger's investment to help anchor a cool foodie district. (I earlier lamented Companion leaving the city instead of coming to a place like this.)

That was a bizarre story. I thought so when I first read it, and it still puzzles me why it's in the newspaper.

Dogs don't belong at bars. Believe it or not, most people don't want to be bothered by someone else's pet.

I think the vast majority of UCBC patrons would disagree with you on that, as evidenced by its popularity and the overwhelmingly negative response this journalist is getting.

^With the exception of service dogs, I agree dogs shouldn't be in restaurants. I'm willing to tolerate dogs on patios, although I have a witnessed a few problems involving dogs dropping deuces, getting leashes tangled around other people's chairs and killing a pigeon. Seems like those problems (with the exception of pigeon killing) would be more amplified in an enclosed space.

The writer of that article is a bit of a snark......

But come on. Dogs shouldn't be in a restaurant.

Is it the dogs that need social training here, or the people?
