Six Row closing shortly, according to the twitter machine. Sad; I thought that place could really thrive as the area around it filled in.

Could it be related to development in the area? Target?
That sucks. Midtown is lacking a concentration of good public meeting places outside of Grand Center IMO.roger wyoming II wrote:Six Row closing shortly, according to the twitter machine. Sad; I thought that place could really thrive as the area around it filled in.

In anticipation of moving its operations, Six Row Brewing Company is closing its Midtown taproom...

We'll have to see what comes next for both Six Row and the building. I would hate to see the building go for any crap retail development. The strange thing is the sudden shut-down as I doubt even if there were plans to fold the site into a larger development that a move would have to be right away.

I thought they owned their buildings and were still investing in them very recently. This looks suspicious. I wonder if Pace is finding more demand than they expected.

One of the 6 investors of 6 row did own that whole building. Including where jimmy johns used to be and stuff. But he wasn't the principal owner and I stopped working there 2 years ago so things could have changed
Soulard could use another brewery. Maybe on the far north end of the neighborhood, near the Market.

From the Brewer's Guild Facebook page regarding Six Row... "if Six Row does re-open at some point, somewhere else, it won't be for quite awhile (as no plan has been announced) and it won't be with the employees that were with them through Saturday."
The small business of having six owners involved in the brand must have been difficult.
Roger alluded to the idea of a bigger opportunity with real estate itself might be in the works. I can see the band breaking up if the players were not happy or if it was getting ever so harder to make the gig work even though the music was good.

Any thoughts that Urban Chestnut took too much from the area with their two operations within 1.9 miles (Grove location) and 1.1 miles (Wash Ave location)?
^I was thinking along those lines as well, although a bit more broadly. There are a lot of great breweries in St. Louis today, and the marketplace must be getting pretty competitive. Bars only have so many taps, and with UCBC increasing scale, Schlaf remaining a mainstay, Four Hands building its following, and many of the more neighborhood scaled operations (Heavy Riff, Alpha, Earthbound) opening up and gaining market share, it's got to be getting tough. UCBC presents the most direct geographic competition, but the battle for taps, shelf space and consumer interest/loyalty city-wide must be tough.

The Cathedral Square plan for the Holy Corners brewpub still intrigues me.... anyone hear anything lateley?
^ Rumor is that it may be moving forward soon! Tough question for folks.... if you could only pick one, would you rather see Cathedral Square open in Holy Corners or Tempest Distillery open in Midtown?
Also, I see O'Fallon Brewery will open its tasting room next week.... I can't recall if they'll have a kitchen or not.

Tough call, but with all the new apartments and construction going on in CWE, I think a Holy Corners brewery redevelopment would be a fantastic complement to what's already happening in the neighborhood. Especially as it would help draw interest north toward - and hopefully, eventually across - Delmar.roger wyoming II wrote:if you could only pick one, would you rather see Cathedral Square open in Holy Corners or Tempest Distillery open in Midtown
At the Heritage Festival this weekend, I overheard the rep pouring the Cathedral Square beers (didn't catch if he was the owner, brewer, or someone else) tell someone that they are breaking ground in July on the church brewery (the one at McPherson and Kingshighway) with an estimated opening of next year.
Also, I found it interesting that there are two additional breweries opening in Maryland Heights soon...Standard Brewing is one and Six Mile Bridge is the other. Both are going to be right at Dorsett and 270, so that area will have three breweries in the immediate vicinity. I obviously wish them all well, but I would question if three breweries out there is overkill.

Heard Ferguson Brewery had a fire. Not sure if they intend to rebuild. Very sad one of the best in the region IMHO and a great example of the potential for that area.
An excellent article that answers the question as to why pumpkin brews appear earlier and earlier was published today in MarketWatch. It focuses on Schlafly and contains a pretty thorough interview with Dan Kopman.

^ this does look like a great project and that side beer garden should be a nice addition. I'd love to see a historical photo btw of what building was located at the corner... looks like a two-story building was demo'ed in the late 90's for the parking lot, but it must have been pretty narrow.
And google needs to drive their butts down Cherokee with streetview... currently it dates all the way back to 2011.

seems like the street must have been widened at some point.

^ awesome.... thanks much. As for the Stock House, it would be great if that original arch work could be restored/replicated but it is so much better now with that white paint gone.
