^There's still time. Forest Park isn't going anywhere. And more high rises are springing up. So . . . :)

. . . Now all we need is growth north and south of that little stretch down the middle. Some Baby Bronx and Tiny Queens to go with the growth in Microhattan. Maybe even a touch of East St. Jersey, if it can be managed. (Maybe we need that one most of all.)

As for me, I think I really do prefer Chicago, much as it pains me to say that. You can leave New York on the coast. But even better than either one?

Home.

Chicago's blend of new and old architecture downtown is amazing.  Supertalls are now starting to surround Millennium and Grant Park.  When it comes to neighborhoods, however, I feel St. Louis outshines Chicago.  Chicago neighborhoods are actually quite bland.  Especially west of Ashland Ave.  The cream brick in older structures isn't wearing well.  The preferred "beaded" tuckpointing style has always bothered me.  Gangways between buildings always have shards of mortar laying around as the stuff falls off walls constantly.  St. Louis ages gracefully.  Chicago, not so much.

I'm still holding out hope that this Skinker proposal can be revived. I know, the neighbors around there are pretty vocal, but the land is still available.

Starting to make itself known from the West Pine Mall at SLU:

And from Lindell just west of Grand:

I'm always blown away someone hadn't already snatched up all of that park facing section over there... right next to the university, streets a little calmer, Demun is super nice... crazy.

NIMBYs and stingy property owners would be my guess.

Yep. I remember how ridiculous how BANANAs the neighbors went when this was proposed. They were adamantly opposed to any multi-family development, period, citing shadows and traffic (both of which would’ve had a minimal impact. Still pisses me off.

^Nice.

If this project topped out where it is now at 22 stories I’d consider it a great success and fantastic addition to the neighborhood, city and skyline. Amazing to know there’s so much more to go.

The core is at about 24 right now, so there's still 12 floors left to go or ~140ish feet left. We are just now hitting the visual impact point for this tower. Driving today the core is starting to be visible from a whole lot of additional areas. When topped out this is going to provide a serious bridge between the downtown and Clayton skylines.

The view from inbound Forest Park Parkway just before the rail bridge (near Kingshighway) is pretty dramatic and somebody needs to get out there and snap a pic!

That lot on Skinker will never be built on. The owners of the adjacent 801 building bought the 809 Skinker lot after that proposal fell through. They placed their generators on the lot and created a garden terrace on the rear portion of the lot.

One can sympathize with why they’d want a “garden terrace”. There’s no public green space near there.

^ Hey now, we are society of fenced in backyards so who wants public green space when you can have your own private green space.  Just never thought of it terms of a high rise going all in and buying the lot next door for its own back yard.  They probably desire that Skinker turn into a private driveway between Clayton and Lindell so they can get rid of all that pesky traffic as well as the buses that go by between them and Forest Park

Thanks for the chuckle but kinda of a bummer that a prime location might not see a proposal in the foreseeable future.   Of course, a good down turn in the economic or stiff rise in the association fees might make it desireable for the owners to sell their backyard to a long term speculator/developer whose sees opportunity down the road.

This is any amazing project. Hopefully not the last major infill we see on Kingshighway.

Construction is wrapping up on Studio Gang's Solar Carve Tower in NYC. Like One Hundred, the glass seems darker in real life than the renderings showed.
