By my rough count of the 26 existing MLS stadiums:
10 are international companies
3 are national
4 have no sponsorship
9 are regional companies

I really doubt they would do that. Doesn't seem on brand for the company to put their name on the stadium.

A spokesman for the new Major League Soccer team St. Louis City SC, which is building a downtown stadium on Market Street set to open in 2023, said that the team was not in discussions with Starbucks.

^ The KMOX article said that too, I guess Mr. Calhoun decided to leave that out of his tweet...helps with the clicks I suppose.  Heinz Field's rights are up at the end of this year and since Heinz moved to Chicago from Pittsburgh (after the Kraft-Heinz merger), it's not likely they'll keep the rights after 2021.  I'm sure there are plenty of other naming rights deals that are coming due in the next few years too.

Ronnoco seems like a good one.  I think they distribute in like 20 states, primarily in the Midwest where the team's primary competitors will be.  Kaldi's crossed my mind...I don't know much about them but I'd wager they're way, way, way too small to afford a naming rights deal.

But I think it's safe to say it's coffee related...

The bolded CITY stuff just feels cheesy to me now.  I'm not sure why.

It's like the majority cross section of our stroller-slinging Tower Grove South subreddit infiltrated the ownership group or something.

A lot of pro soccer is cheesy tbh. The only MLS game I've been to had the vibe and median age of a middle school pep assembly.

St. Louis City SC asking for input on food options in the stadium. Basically, name your favorite local restaurant.

Austin opened their new stadium tonight. Looks to be a similar stadium to ours.

Grated we've only seen renderings and construction shots for STL's thus far, but I feel like the one here is more intimate, maybe it's because it's below grade and you see a lot more of the surrounding city and skyscrapers around it.  Austin's stadium site looks to be surrounded by low density uses, a lot of industrial.  Maybe that's why.

This looks nice, but if it had a roof on it, it would give me airplane hanger vibes.

This one ends after the 2025 season...

I wouldn't assume that a company based in Leuven, Belgium has quite as much loyalty to the tradition of keeping its name on a baseball stadium as the St. Louis-based company it swallowed 13 years ago. If you told people in Milwaukee ten years ago that this is what they would see when they go to Brewers games in 2021, they would have laughed at you...

This is a week old, and about a third of the roof is complete. More videos and pics on the other slides:

Satellite of some early progress.  First time I've seen an aerial with no NSD ramps.

Hard to fathom how the stadium would have fit south of Market.  Seems like the LHM lot would have been needed.

^ It would have used that lot. The original plan (pre-Taylor’s) was to knock down the union hall next to Maggie O’s and build it in there.

Yes. I don't think anyone ever suggested otherwise, at least not after those interlopers acquired the Harry's property to throw up their cheap hotel. I am sure that was the main reason the team owners chose to locate the stadium north of Market. There was no way they were going to pry even half of that parking lot away from LHM...

I ran the measurements a couple years ago using the footprint of some of the smaller MLS stadiums.  They could have squeezed one in with either half of the Union Station West lot or the Harry's site, and either the Police Retirement Association building, or the Drury garage.

That said, the stadium being built is quite a bit wider than the smaller MLS stadiums.

The Bricklayer's Union is above Maggie O's.

Are you serious? I thought the whole thing with the St. Louis stadium was how the sections are stacked and even the furthest seat from the field is not that far away. How is the stadium much wider?

The police retirement system office is in the building next door, that would have been knocked down.  Splitting hairs, tbh.

Yes. I am serious.

The seats may be closer to the field, but the footprint of the perimeter roof columns, concourses, and all of the protruding ticketing, restroom, and vending structures is huge compared to other small MLS stadiums. This is evident by the fact the St. Louis stadium footprint is square, unlike most of them, which are much more rectangular.
