I don't want to know how thick the brown layer is.

Oh it's thick. Like this forum, I'm sure the building is full of it.

I was on my way into work this morining and you can definately tell that there is a covering on the comb over! I am sure the brown will be gone when they are ready to unveil the real product!

I am not trying to personnaly dig anyone here so please don't take it that way, but what make anyone think the brown color is a cover? How could you tell? I drive past this thing everyday and there has never been anything that would make me feel it is "covered". In fact at one point while they were installing the pieces that face 70 you could see through them. The part that you could see through looked like mesh, almost like it was to allow light or air throught. If the brown was a cover why would they take the time to put the holes in it for that?

I am probably wrong and if so will admit it, but can we please just wait and see what happends and quit guessing.

On the other hand I did see light on the comb over, acctually it was a red aviation light on the top corner of the short piece facing 70. So if nothing else it will "light up the night" :D

For the record I think the brown is a type of sheet metal that will be the base for the lights which will then be covered with glass.

Wow. In my wildest dreams, I would never have imagined placing a mohawk on a building. Pinnacle, great job!

A "glowing brown streak"? Is this being built on top of a superfund site? :P

You aren't wrong Skippy. :) While I admire the inexorable pertinacity of the deniers, I fear that the coming realization that the great, glowing, combed-over, baby-sh*t-brown streak is here to stay, might do lasting harm to their psyches.

Again, I ask:
jlblues wrote:Isn't it possible that the streak will appear brown during the day and white at night - through lighting or the "light box effect" that Pinnacle keeps referring to on their website?
:?:

And, just because I loved this one so much (oddly enough, Conan's lights up at night too):

It's quite interesting how as the comb over starts it downward curve it does resemble this image of Conan. Maybe he has a vested intrest in Pinnacle :-s

On a different note, do you think they are gonna cover the open staircase on the southeast corner of the building? Or are they going for that open air, lovely view look?

Oh yeah one last thing then I will shut up! From looking at the web cam its hard to tell how the whole "Boat in a Moat" thing is going to work. That is unless I missed something and they don't have to do that now. I mean the buildings appear to come right up to the street.

Oh wait it just hit me thats not a road they are putting in that is the moat and the black color is just a cover to disguise the true color of the Mississippi water. #-o

They are not building a "moat" for thsi project. The Casino floor is actually located on top of a large water reserve underneath the building itself (made by Pinnacle specifically for this purpose), and the floor of the building is sitting on concrete piers (If I read correctly earlier.)

I was down there the other day, and looking up close I think the brown is a vinyl cloth protective covering. Just what my eyes told me.

Wait to find out what? I don't have any questions about this project, or at least not on the construction or exterior design. It is the deniers that have all of the questions. Now that we have determined the level of design on the exterior though, I am kind of curious about the casino interior and hotel lobby. I am hopeful that they took all of the money they saved on the exterior, and put the rest of that $450 million into interior design and materials. [-o<

Looks like the stairway is now being enclosed like the renderings show. I think they were using the area to move stuff into the building.

It just looks like that because the metal that makes up the streak is slightly warped or dented in places, especially where two pieces are connected, which kind of makes me wonder how well this is going to stand the test of time.

Skippy - no moat, newstl2020 has it right. And yes they are enclosing the stairs.

Now that newsstl2020 mentioned it I do remember reading that early on. I just thought the whole black topped street reference sounded funny, but hey it was earlier this morning.

I wonder if they will have an open house type deal where you can go in and look around before they open for business. Kinda of like was done with the Dome and the Scott Trade Center back in the day.

That's what I thought as well, although I am obviously not a brown streak conspiracy theorist.

See, it appeared to me to be a thin perforated metal, almost like a screen. something like this:

Except turd brown. It just had that painted metal sheen to it ,unlike a cloth or vinyl covering.

^Even if it is perforated like that it could very easily be a protective cover that peels of. Typically finished metals will have a protective covering during installation to keep from scratching it. This is taken off at the end of construction.

We'll find out soon enough either way.

I don't think anyone ever posted this, only the link, so here it is:

I think this rendering is pretty damn close, except the brown streak seems wider at the top, and I don't think the glass on the south elevation will actually appear that dark. BTW, your image is spot on RBB. I was looking for an image of the perforations like that, but I couldn't find anything under the LED-backlit sign companies when I posted the article earlier. Good job.

And while you combed-over brown streak deniers are waiting , anyone want to make a wager??? It is a gambling establishment we are talking about after all.

Yes, I bet someone will be right and someone will be wrong.

BTW, I noticed that the MLK bridge ramp from East 70 is back open, does anyone have any pics as to what the underground walkway looks like from the outside? I assume thats why that darn thing was closed all summer.

No pics, but from the outside it looks like concrete sidewalks and curbs and asphalt streets, with a highway passing overhead.

As far as the entrance goes, I don't think it is completed yet. Maybe it will be a mini combed-over brown streak?
