I don't believe that there really is any sort of "standard" for the inclusion or omision of the 13th floor. To my knowledge it is merely dependent on what the developer decides to do.

Most of the casinos in Las Vegas try and avoid using the number 8 since it's bad luck in many Asian cultures. I think the MGM Grand takes it the furthest with no 8th, 18th and 28ths floors and no rooms with 8 in the number.

It's amazing how stupid people can be.
Not amazing to me.
Seriously, CS, I'm surprised by your amazement.

And the one that is least able to understand basic math.
Both of these statements are, sadly, right on the mark.
So after the Arch(630'), Met Square(593'),AT&T(588'),Eagleton(557'),UsBank(484'),Laclede(401'),SW Bell(399'),Civil(386'), Bank of America(384'), One City Centre(375'), 1010 Market(296'), we have Lumiere place in the 12th spot at 289 feet.
In the region, it's actually 13 or 14 tallest. You have the Plaza in Clayton and now the new casino hotel in St. Charles which will be taller than the downtown hotel.
From my view in One Financial Plaza it looks to be halfway there -- about 12 stories right now.

I was surprised they didn't go taller (at least 25). Maybe throw some condos on the top few floors. But hey, you can't really complain when it's completely private $s.

You're correct. If you look at the rendering, it appears that the tower extends 12 stories above the 3 double-story levels. Currently there are 4 stories built above the double-story levels, so I think it's only another 8 stories to top off (except for the cheesy arch thingy).

How much taller? That sucks.
How tall(in feet) is the Ameristar?
I was driving northbound on 270 and as I approached 70 I looked to my left and could the see hotel rising above St. Charles. It looks pretty damn big.

^ agree. Driving over the PSB this morning east to west my wife commented on how it stands out at the north end of the skyline. I'm kinda anxious to see the finished product. It could be really, really good or really, really bad.

You can see the Ameristar Casino all the way from the Poplar Street Bridge? You must drive a really big SUV

Don't forget Pierre Laclede Center(309') Sevens Building(312') and the U-Club Tower(326')
I e-mailed the contruction company and they said the height of the building is 306' from groudfloor to the FAA light at the top of the building. I e-mailed them again asking for the structural height instead of the FAA light. I'll get back to everyone on this when I get an answer, but this building is probably over 300'.

While the hotel tower goes to level 19, it is really only 18 floors as there is no level 13, just like in most buildings. The confusion for some people, I believe, occurs where the architectural element of the ‘light box’ comes into play. Level 19 tops out at 220 feet, above that are several levels of machine rooms before the roof tops out at 248ft. Extending above that is the architectural element we call the ‘light box’. It is essentially a lighted element that will be seen from quite a distance and resembles the shape of the St Louis arch. The height of the entire building, including the light box is 289ft, which is 750 ft above sea level. Level one starts at 461ft above sea level.
I am curious to see how the final product looks in the skyline. I think it should stick out though being the tallest building (unless you count US Bank) on the North side of DT.

Has anyone seen a rendering or drawings of the west side of this thing? It would seem that it will be mostly plain, undisguised parking garage and make the 70 underpass and the area between the Dome and the casino/hotel even more depressing and univiting for pedestrians than it already is. Probably another reason for the tunnel. Plus all of the entrances and the valet seem to be on the east side.
Slightly off topic. I was out at Harrahs this last weekend. Rumor has it they are trying to sell the Riverport location. The bartender said a whole bunch of potential owners came though last week during the day poking around and asking questions.
Harrahs is claiming they want to focus on Las Vegas locations and get out of the riverboat casino part. The rumors among employees are Harrahs is scared by all the money being spent downtown and in St. Charles. It also could be a tactic to get the loss limit removed.

The law is a tad paternalistic for my tastes.
Was down at Morgan St last night and from the back patio the tower is really going to look good. It fills in a gap between two buildings (when looking north) and when lit up will make quite an impact.
The hotel in St. Charles is 306' to FAA light I meant.
Sorry for any confusion.

I've heard rumors that the state /gaming commision has been a huge pain to work with. Can anyone confirm this, not that it's a surprise in this state?
