Woo-Hoo! I won a $5 gift certificate to Peet's! And all I had to do was give them all of my personal information.

Not to get off topic.... Did they turn the lights OFF the ARCH?????

That's news to me as well. It was illuminated last Thursday night when I was on I-44 eastbound.

Hopefully it will still be illuminated from time to time, and I hope there aren't any issues with the lighting at Lumiere Place either.

the lights seem to be on pretty regular.

what is'nt lit anymore is the Ead's Bridge.

what happened to that, I thought they had funding to keep those lights on.

If the funding has run out, the city needs to hit up corporations to buck up

for future lighting for Eads.

I don't know if you guys are talking about the pretty blue lights they had on the Eads or the regular streetlights. Because last few times I've been over at night the bridge has been completely dark.

The combed-over streak was almost completely lit up all day from about noon to 4PM today (per the webcan, can't say as I noticed it when I was downtown though), and then again around 5:30. I still have not seen it lit up noticeably around mid-day under a clear sky, or maybe the lights just aren't bright enough. I was hoping the lights would be always on and they might show enough in any weather, so that we never have to see that hideous brown nonsense. Of course, I might prefer baby-sh*t brown to hot pink, or neon orange, or slime green, or...hmmm.

Yea I got the $5 gift certificate to Peet's and a t-shirt. However, I really want the $50,000 but the gift certificate and shirt are better than nothing. That is more than what I have ever gotten out of a casino here.

it would have been interesting if all of these casinos could have opened up in one area... maybe lining both banks of the mississippi downtown with all the crazy neon lighting and such. it could be one of those things where the sum is greater than the parts ... or maybe not.

For the record, the lighting feature on the Four Seasons Hotel is characterized by the designers as an "arc of light".

Just an FYI. :)

Huh? You mean they aren't using our 'Lit-up, Combed-over, Baby sh*t Brown Streak' appellation? Fine, whatever.

^LOL!!

I know St. Louisans find creative names for unusual projects. Some used to call the Gateway Arch a "wish bone" amongst other things. But yeah, "arc of light" (the official description) sounds more sophisticated and refined than "comb over" or "brown streak".

I still like glowhawk... but I guess arc of light sounds more technical... or religious...

I really like the multi-colored setting. It's the first thing I see when I walk out of the office towards my parking garage every night.

the light box, as Lumière designers call it, is not neon but rather 42,550 feet of LED lights. The display echoes the curve of the Gateway Arch and the Mississippi River and can project 16 million colors and any array of patterns.

You're all wrong. It's a light box.

Marnell Corrao shipped the light display here in 58 sections. Because LED lights don't have a filament that burns out, they can last for 30 years. LED lights also require considerably less power than incandescent bulbs. Ewing estimated that it will cost about $25 a day to keep its rainbow aglow once the casino opens for business Dec. 19.

$25 dollars a day? That is impressive.

One thing keeps irking me, are they going to fill in the spots that aren't lighting up? Not just the part that was apparently damaged, but there's a ton of patches that are completely void of light. Watch the video until about 10 seconds are left (it's in blue at the time) and you'll see what I mean. It just makes it look like there's already issues, which makes me less impressed.

The multi-color feature is cool though, I didn't know it was going to be able to display all of those colors.

Thought this was kind of interesting, provided of course they get it all lit up the same way...the blue-green pattern that is. I think it is much less obtrusive if they do something like this, of course they want it to be obtrusive, but whatever.

The multicolor streak is beautiful and striking. I wonder if it's enough to detract from the drab and expansive parking structure. Hope so.

I really don't think the average person notices the parking structure that much. I know I don't when I cross the river.

This is the best web-cam shot of Lumière Place to date - I really like the way it looks here!

Maybe they should have installed fog machines in the streak instead of lights. Unfortunately, even this doesn't hide the garage completely. :(

I still don't see the point of the gaps in the top part of the streak, or should I say the part in the combover.

I can't say I'm in love with the design of this place, but I can't complain since (1) I've never seen an attractive casino anywhere and (2) it's more of a destination than other casinos in the area with the variety of dining options that will be available (and hopefully some retail with Phase II!).
