As of 7:27 tonight, the top of the glowhawk is fully lit without any dark patches.
BTW, my wife and I went downtown yesterday around 5 while it was lit up and she thought it looked "like crap". It's funny how at times, the lights look incredibly cool (like in the images above), but at others (like yesterday, when it was cheesy stripes) it just looks tacky.
I find it hysterical that Ameristar in wherever-the-suburban-hell is opening a night club called "Home St. Louis" in response to the opening of Lumiere. Actually, I find it quite annoying.
The wait is almost over! In just a few short days Lumière Place will flip the switch on a new era in St. Louis. In a city full of iconic figures and rich heritage, the opening of Lumière Place will begin a new chapter in the St. Louis history book. A chapter envisioned to be full of energy and excitement with the exposition set for December 19, 2007 at 10:00pm. Soon Lumière Place will link itself to the heart of the city and be a recognizable star in the sky.
The visions and dreams of this project, both inside and out, have truly come to fruition which will soon be unveiled to the world. Many have seen or heard about the testing of the great light but only few know its true capabilities. On December 19th, 2007 all rumors will cease and all questions will be answered. An event destined to change not only the sky line of a great city but also set a foundation for future growth. The celebration begins at the opening and builds the charge to a New Years Eve celebration this city has never seen before. Such monumental events are scarce in ones lifetime and rarely can one plan for them. However, Lumière Place Casino & Hotels is offering such a moment to the residence of the greater St. Louis area when it opens its doors and hospitality at 10:00pm. Where will you be?
I hope to see you at 10:00pm on Wednesday, December 19th, 2007.
Sincerely,
Todd George
Vice President & General Manager
Lumière Place Casino & Hotels
What capabilities do you think this light thing can have? Anything like the Fremont Street display in Vegas?
Have they announced the New Years plans? What's going on for that?

What you have to appreciate is the competition. Ameristar, Harrahs and the Casino Queen have all upgraded their facilities in anticipation of Lumiere's opening. So in the end, We the consumer win.

Yeah, but does Lumiere Place have Wilmer Valderama at their grand opening?!
The gaming landscape in the St. Louis area is about to change-literally. Lumiere Place, Pinnacle Entertainment's downtown creation, features a lightbox that incorporates thousands of LED light strips.
Each LED panel is controlled by a laptop and there are millions of possible color combinations. Pinnacle says its' offerings inside Lumiere will be just as impressive.

I do appreciate the competition. What I don't appreciate is Ameristar using the St. Louis name when they didn't have the balls or the courage to invest in St. Louis. You have to earn the right to claim StL (at least imo). If they didn't want to invest in the city, they should have named their nightclub "home St. Charles." That's what annoys me.

Eff the party at the new club at Ameristar that's being hosted Wilmer Valderama. A couple nights later Jamie Presley from "My Name is Earl" is hosting a different party. If you're not at work I would highly suggest searching Google images for some of her stuff.
Who will buy the Lumiere product? Entirely different groups from those that visit any of the region's other entertainment options. Also, it appears that Lumiere is a national (not local or regional) destination.
Maybe even a global destination when bundled with the Cardinals or the Pulitzer? It could be the missing link or gateway that could attract the upscale traveler to St. Louis.
Where is the next closest 5-star hotel with similar entertainment amenities?
I am struggling to find the competitive advantage, other than catering to those with large appetites, that Harrah's is giving itself with a $17 million buffet. Think about this for a minute, Missouri is going to be home to a buffet that costs $17 million! If that's not going to move us into the fattest city rankings even further then I don't know what else will.

When someone from St. Charles says "I never say I'm from St. Louis, I always say St. Charles". People laugh at that and say that he'll have to say St. Louis when they ask where St. Charles is at. Then if someone from St. Charles says "St. Louis" then that is scrutinized because they aren't really from St. Louis.
Just sayin'...
Anyways, I could see the red glowhawk glowing fro SIU on my way home. Pretty impressive.

So what does this cost? There's nothing on their website. By the way, the image on their site of an older rendering - a better glowhawk IMO.
1. I've bought into the 'glowhawk' term too. Sounds fairly cool, and a lot better than 'combover'.
2. Check out the images from tonight (9:44, 9:58, and 10:13). There's new lights shining on the building in different colors. Pinnacle isn't kidding about lighting up the St. Louis night skyline. I was looking closer at the images and it looks like quite a few are set up on the roof, and more on the other side of the street. Pretty nice IMO.
I think that most of the "new" lighting is just for the grand opening, it may stick around for a while but I don't think it is permenant.
On a side note check out the 12:51, 1:06, and 1:20 images from last night (18th/19th). I guess the 'glowhawk' can be seen from space, because that looks like a UFO above the EJ Dome.
How many people are going down at 10:00pm tonight to see the official lightup? I wander where the best place to be is so that you can see everything.
Man, those Lumiere Place ads on STLtoday.com are irritating! Of course, there are many other qualities that make that website irritating.
Anyway, I found this in yesterday's article about the casino:
Like many other gamblers in the area, he's eager to see what Pinnacle built for half a billion dollars. And while some point to the downtown location as a potential negative, he doesn't see it that way.
"I go downtown for other stuff, so it doesn't bother me," he said. "I'm sure everybody's going to go out and check it out."
Well, at least the interviewee doesn't see the downtown location as a negative. And, praytell, why exactly would it be a negative? Frankly, I'd say the St. Charles and Maryland Heights casinos are more of "a negative", as it's a long drive, a sometimes stressful drive, and there's not much else to do in either place once I leave the casino.
I think this casino is going to be a great addition to downtown, despite what some pot-stirring P-D reporter thinks. One thing that concerns me though is the bloody ridiculous $500 loss limits that are still in place. With this casino and another one on the way in Lemay soon, why can't the Missouri Legislature get rid of this once and for all?
^ If the new casino just siphons people off the Landing and keeps them in the casino, then it can be a negative, no matter how many people it brings in.
