I'll be done with finals Thursday, so I will see what I can do after that. Don't let that stop anyone else. I probably won't be able to get any pics until next Tuesday.

I can't say I'm in love with the design of this place, but I can't complain since (1) I've never seen an attractive casino anywhere and (2) it's more of a destination than other casinos in the area with the variety of dining options that will be available (and hopefully some retail with Phase II!).

I dunno, I'm a pretty big fan of this one being proposed in AC (Excluding the enormous mcdonalds). Not exactly the same caliber, however, as this one is made up of twin 710' towers.

Wynn in Vegas is pretty damn nice, inside and out. From what I understand from people in the industry,

Wynn is considered by many to be the model for the future of the industry there.

The whole mini- >insert international tourist mecca here< casino thing has been pretty much played out.

Edit:  That gave me a funny image. Maybe Vegas should build a Mecca Resort-Casino. Hell, most of the Saudi and UAE sheiks gamble there

...sooooo, they could just say they were taking their pilgrimage to Mecca!

I wonder how long that would last.

Stolen from Flickr, though distorted a bit by the fisheye lens, and obviously taken from south of the Arch:

Yea, the "classic" shot of St. Louis that the whole world sees and is convinced that St. Louis really doesn't have anything over 20 floors.

Well not completely. At least not according to Lumiere Place's own previous press releases, and Pinnacle's chairman who used "arc of light" regularly. However, the "light box" description seems to be the official term now, which is a departure from previous Pinnacle press releases.

Pinnacle Entertainment Brings Burger Bar to Lumiere Place

September 21, 2007, "Arc of Light"

-------

"Pinnacle's newest property in St. Louis, MO, is scheduled to in December 2007. Lumière reflects the city's French heritage with its 24-story luxury hotel tower, which will be illuminated at night with an arc of light. Lumière Place will offer a 75,000 square foot casino with more than 2,000 slot machines and 40 table games, a 10,000 square foot spa, a business center, restaurants, and retail shops." Source: Casino Careers

------

"As Lee unveiled the concept model of the proposed complex, he explained how the name was conceived. "Lumiere, which means "light" in French, reflects both the city's French heritage and the dramatic presence that Pinnacle's 24-story hotel tower will have along the St. Louis riverfront," stated Lee. "The tower will be illuminated from within at night with a striking arc of light, creating a new square icon in the downtown skyline." Pinnacle Chairman Daniel Lee, slfp.com (11/2006)

Lumiere Place: Fact Sheet

11/27/07, "Light Box"

Either way, "comb over" or "brown streak" were not in any press releases.

Is Pinnacle Entertainment proposing the twin towers for AC? Not bad, but they look kind of "casino-ish".

While I think the Four Seasons Hotel could have been taller - may be 30-35 stories - I like the design. Plus, "light boxes" are showing up on new towers across the country - like Minneapolis, Houston. Such a cutting-edge design is good for downtown. Maybe architects will be bolder with designs for downtown in the future.

I'll second that. I hate the shots of our skyline that look like someone superimposed the Gateway Arch in front of downtown Paducah*.

(Nothing against Paducah, it's a lovely little place. I just think St. Louis' skyline looks much more impressive from other angles, yet most skyline pictures are taken from the same misleading angle.)

Our skyline shots are hampered by the fact that St. Louis was built on a bluff well above the river, so any shots taken from river level are actually angled up, thereby distorting the perspective. Once you're up to the level of, say, the Poplar Street Bridge, the buildings look much more impressive. Such is life.

BTW, I can't wait to see the new Centenne and Ballpark Village condo towers in that view.

Okay, I'll eat my words, the rendering of the proposed Atlantic City casino looks nice, despite the all-too-obvious presence of McDonald's.

I'm sure the Wynn in Las Vegas is nice as well, although I'm no fan of Las Vegas in general.

No, the rendering that I posted is of the Revel Casino and Hotel in Atlantic City. Not a Pinnacle project. Sorry, I should have included that in the original post.

It was all lit up tonight, alternating between white and red. Looked pretty cool, though I can see where it would be a distraction.

Oh no. The cheese factor has been upped.

Instead of the Pinnacle sign underneath the drive-up, they put in 3 Christmas trees (not a bad touch for the season). The problem is that up above they installed a sign that simply says "Casino" in the most generic font possible. Blah.

What cracks me up about that "classic shot" is that in real life the buildings look so much bigger in person. This is one of the few instances in photography where things actually look smaller than bigger. Maybe some people worried about their weight should start using this type of photography to look better in pictures.

I guess they wanted to be the proper foil to the east side's generic "Hotel" on the riverfront.

Looks like they're patching the four gaps in the glowhawk (on the sides of the final piece that went in, and the parts that connect the top to both sides). Hopefully they're fixing those parts to light up too.

This Thursday's Rams/Steelers will be a semi-national game on the NFL Network. I wonder if they'll have any "beauty" shots coming back from/going into commercial breaks that will incorporate the lit up casino and the glowhawk?

Hopefully they'll also use some street level shots of Washington Ave with all the new neon signs.

Well, this is interesting. It should be a deeper indigo though...

And, the pic on the right is for all of you that missed the Geminid meteor shower - the web-cam shot from 8:03 PM on 12/14. Or, is it a meteor?  Too bad the comb-over wasn't lit up, that would have almost been poster-worthy.

Re: The sign: From recent webcam shots, I guess they could actually spell out Lumière across the top after all. I really hope they don't, but it certainly looks like they could. Do they really need a sign? They have a giant glowing thing on top of their hotel, I don't think it will take people long to figure out that it is a casino.
