I may go. I live downtown, so it's easy to get there. It just depends on how busy I am as I'm traveling three weeks in December. I'm really looking forward to it opening, though, and I'm not even a big gambler!

Not much of gambler, however I think this project is great for downtown. I plan to go to the opening. Having the Four Seasons on the property is not only good for Lumiere Place, it is also good for downtown. Having a Four Seasons downtown will really bring downtown to the next level. They'll attract higher $$ conventions, tourists, etc.

I'll be out of town for Christmas, but I'll go check this place out in the new year once the crowd and hype dies down. :)

The hype will never die!

Anyway, Mrs. Grover and I may check it out this month, but probably not the opening night.

A friend interviewed there last week. She said it's higher end Vegas quality and is one of the nicest places she's seen outside of Nevada.

(She decided to stay at Harrah's. She's got good seniority and doesn't want to give up her key shifts. Apparently Harrahs and Ameristar are afraid but also ticked off that Lumiere is coming into their places and headhunting.)

Saw the whole 4 Season Hotel lit up completely for the first time this evening. It most definitely gets your attention! Those light panels are pretty awesome but so different from anyting in our skyline I just can't decide yet how I really feel about it. I guess I might classify it as gaudy-chic.

The first web-cam pic of the entire thing being lit up is at 4:33 pm. The 5:02 pic is really cool.

Man, I hope this thing doesn't end up dominating the skyline at night. BTW, the combed-over streak is actually lit on the 3:05 PM web-cam pic, just to give you an idea of how well it shows up in daylight. I think it may have been lit up all day, but it just doesn't show when the sun is out.

I definitely prefer white or blue, but a darker blue than what is on tonight's pics. Blue complements the building rather well for some reason. A deep indigo might work too. All of the other colors I have seen are gaudy and the patchwork/rainbow thing looks like ass. If it constantly flashes from one color to the next, it is going to look really cheesy and I will be extremely pissed.

What will be especially interesting is what it does to the sky on a misty, overcast night. The colored lights they have around the Chicago River/Navy Pier make the entire sky and north half of the skyline take on that color on such a night.

i think i'll reserve judgment as well until i see what this thing can really do. i was driving home on 70E today when i saw it lit up. the jingle for those old lite-brite commercials was the first thing that popped into my head.

I happend to be driving home from work while they had it lit up. All I can say is WOW. They were running some kind of test pattern with blue and some green mixed in. Now this was on the "back/north" side of the comb over. I don't know if the same thing was happening on the front side. From the looks of what I saw the possibilities with it are endless. If they are able to mix the colors they could almost show video on the darn thing at the top. Guess we will have to see what it can do for real on the 19th. I am definatly going to try and be down there to see it.

I prefer a classic look. I have yet to see a bright white pic (not sure if that can be done through the brown?). IMO a pure white streak of light over the building would do wonders for backlighting (from the North) the skyline to the South. I'm holding out hope.

Aside from white, I am also a fan of the blue. I really dislike the patch-work colors they have been testing lately, so I hope they choose a solid.

He said the office tower, not the casino...I think that's what he meant, any way.

I couldn't decide if that was white or blue. Certainly has a very blue tint to it, at least to me. But I would prefer that to anything else they've lit up if they do it in one continuous streak.

City hall is already receiving complaints about the streak. Reporters have been inquiring about the streak.

"the streak is too bright"

"the streak will cause traffic accidents"

People never stop complaining.

Wait until the Army Corps of Engineers and the barge operators get their say. We'll only get to see the lights on New Year's and if the Cards win the Series.

That is a good point. I sure hope not. Now that it is there, let's just leave it on. And since that is on, lets turn the lights back on at the Arch. If barge operators can't see, they can buy night vision glasses or something. It is ridiculous that we cannot have lights on by the river. If we put lights on the bridge piers too, then the barge operators should have no problem navigating them. While were at it, let's just build some stadium lights around downtown and the river and really light the place up. If they can't see in the night, we will bring the day to them.

I agree..... the streak won't cause the accidents it's the idiots that can't drive that will cause the accidents. The same ones that are rubbernecking at every little thing on the side of the road, or talking on the cell phone, or reading a book, or whatever!

The fact of the matter is god forbid we try to have something different and unique in the city. Lets just keep it the same old way and maybe everyone will stay out! Bah Humbug!
