No, I don't wear black socks. As the sandals I wear are generally of the thong variety. I wear the striped toe/glove socks.

It may not be sandals they object to, but flip-flops. And I think we can all agree that those are hoosier. (not to mention gay (lame) on guys)

Well, what can one wear in this place? Maybe they should write out what you can wear instead of what you can't since the list is so damn long. Also, sandals can look fine on guys (just don't wear socks with them...) Read GQ or something.

It might be nice if they posted their dress code online or something. It's bad PR to turn people away from a bar owned by a sports player when the common person would assume you'd be able to be able to wear a jersey to the joint.

And anyway, there appears to be a lot of miscommunication. In an interview with the owner/manager, they purport to say that sports gear is allowed in the bar and patios of the place. Well, which is it?

What? No Cardinal hats or T-shirts?

No. There’s a bar downstairs and two patios for the fans. We want different atmospheres, different looks.

Good luck to them...

Flip Flops are far from lame. Sandals are the ones who are not longer in style. A pair of reef sandals can cost up to $100 (the pair I have are $70, but I got for free, HA!) Regular strapped sandals look a little ridiculous with jeans, like a pair of TEVAs. But a nice pair of leather flip-flops are quite fashionable summer wear right now.

Exactly. I pick up GQ every now and then, and in my world (in 2007), a nice pair of leather flip-flops will trump regular sandals any day. Unless I'm going to a place where people are generally compelled to dress up, I usually wear a nice collared shirt, nice jeans, and my leather Kenneth Cole flip flops (which hardly qualify as hoosier footwear). I don't have an overinflated opinion of myself by any means, but I wore something like that the other night when my wife and I dined al fresco in the CWE, and I still looked better than roughly two out of three men in the area.

That said, I don't think the dress code is that big of a deal. Not trying to pick on anyone, but note the guy in Grover's picture that's wearing a Nike hat and jacket. It's a more casual look than I'd wear if I were going to Fifteen, but it's not like he's wearing a beer-stained Bo Hart jersey and nasty jorts. So, I get the impression the dress code is open to interpretation.

You know, there's a way to dress for the Cardinals and for F15teen, too:

Yes. But we have to differentiate between sandals and flip flops. Sandals = OK, flip flops = not.

everyone one under the age of 30 wears flip flops whenever they can.

Personally I love it when I see someone wear socks and sandals of any kind. IT's almost as 80's as someone wearing anything but ankle socks with shorts. Tall socks, whether knee high or shin high will seriously date you. I'm no fashion nazi, but it's amazing what people sport in public. I know some people don't care, but have a little self respect for once.

Let's be serious, 15 is an UPSCALE LOUNGE. (sorry for yelling) It's pretty obvious Jimmy wouldn't want people wearing flip flops or sandals. He is targeting a higher demo (or people who like a more upscale atmosphere). Can we just leave it at that?

Hey, being a Hoosier doesn't mean buying cheap shoes - it's a way of life. IMO - I'm freakin' tired of seeing people in flip flops. Fine, they're fashionable, but I don't think we would be well served by equating fashionable and tasteful. It's like being lazy and showing off your nasty toes has somehow become acceptable. Just wear nice shoes - why is that so hard. (Of course I'm sure Trent is perfectly presentable in his flip flops). I applaud this place for having a dress code. I say if you have to ask what the dress code is, you shouldn't be going there. It's kind of like asking how much a Lamborghini costs. If you have to ask . . .

I agree, and that's why I don't think the dress code is that big of a deal. More places ought to give it a try.

FWIW, I wouldn't wear flip flops to Fifteen, I just think the right ones are more stylish than regular sandals for men. And, as casually as people dress in St. Louis (and our society in general), the right kind of flip flops are generally acceptable in many places when paired with the right clothing.

[rant] If there's a commonly accepted facet of fashion that bugs me, it's the ubiquitousness of the T-shirt, even in ostensibly upscale places. Some people think if they spend $40 or more for a graphic tee, or if they pair it with a blazer, that they're dressed up.

I wear T-shirts around the house, to go watch a ballgame, to work in the yard, or when I wash the car. I'll occasionally stretch my own rules and wear one if I'm going somewhere sh*tty like McDonald's or to a place where I'll be outside for a prolonged period of time, but that's about it. I have nothing against them- I'll even admit to shopping at Steve and Barry's for an el cheapo once in a while. Like flip flops, though, there's a time and a place. [/rant]

I agree with this too! There is a certain "lack of trying" when wearing flip flops. Which is ok if you are going to the store. But not in anyplace halfway nice.

Crocs for women are fine. Crocs + guy = gay (both literally and in the "lame" sense) :)

Central, you're showing your age again, or the fact you don't know what you're talking about. As someone mentioned, EVERYONE under 30 will wear leather flip-flops at any chance they get. Go to any bar in Clayton or Ladue, you'll see the same flip-flops. Are you one of the hoosiers that wears MANdals? LOL!!

Remember, 30 years ago you could have said the same thing about polyester slacks. Just because something is popular doesn't mean it looks good. A common mistake.

I would also bet that you wear baseball caps indoors. Or even worse, backwards.

I have no problem whatsoever with a dress code.

I disagree with 314 on the t-shirt deal. I have very few graphic tees. But I do own several colored t-shirts that I wear out quite often. I usually buy v-neck from banana republic, and pairing that with a pair of jeans (not the stupid kind with holes all over them) is a very clean and fashionable look.

Now if you're talking about a sports t-shirt, I would agree. But when you get dressed, if you're wearing a blazer, with t-shirt, jeans and dressy shoes, that's a nice look (if you have taste and put it together well).

And CS, the polyester slacks may not have been fashionable, the the lines were. Clean lines is something that is fashionable, and you can achieve a fashionable look many different ways. I have a variety of hats that I wear on different occasions, but I usually prefer not to wear a hat at all because I like to pay money for a good haircut. But the bottom line is that fashion these days is pretty diverse, and you can be fashionable in many different ways. I'd rather not wear a striped button up shirt with jeans every time I go out. Because that's what 98% of the guys that go out wear. When this became the popular fashion, I'll never know, but always resent. Fashion is more about looking good with who you are, than a defined set of characteristics determined by x designer or y magazine.

And Grover, using the word 'taste' is a bad step, because taste is personal. What you may think is tasteless may not be to others. Particularly when it comes to fashion. Granted, there are things that are 'generally' considered bad fashion. For example, somebody complaining about jeans. There are jeans that are incredibly tasteful, and others that aren't. If you can see your underwear, and your entire knee cap, probably not very tasteful. The same can be said for sandals vs. shoes. Technically, I could wear a pair of bowling shoes into a place like that, but not a pair of Kenneth Cole sandals? Or what about a pair of docksiders, but not a pair of pumas?

Saying no athletic shoes is saying you can't wear pumas. What about a pair of old school pumas, with a nice pair of dark jeans, a white dress shirt, with a cashmere v-neck pull over? Isn't that dressy? I would say it is. You may disagree because of the inclusion of sneakers.

I have a pair of seersucker pants, that I wear with my sandals (flip-flops), and a pima cotton polo. Not tasteful enough?
