We got the point long, long ago Doug: you don't like the garage mahal and the new Schnucks. You won't shop there.

For those who live within walking distance it would probably make more sense to invest in one of those folding shopping carts anyway. Won't have to bag your stuff either. Just drop it in your cart and walk home.

Took a few minutes to run over to the grand opening - the new store is really nice. I look forward to shopping there!

It'd be great to have a Dean and Deluca or D&D-like store either downtown or at Bohemian Hill.

We all believe that the Century shouldn't have been torn down, Doug.

Hopefully we can stop any further unnecessary demolition since there's nothing we can do about the Century anymore. That battle is lost but there's still the war and we can still win that if we focus on the future.

Ok, so all of my previous posts pertaining to Culinaria were WRONG. The new store is AMAZING. Any neighborhood in any city would be proud to have a store like this. Schnucks put a lot of thought into the store. Well worth the wait AND the subsidies!

Back before the Century building was built there was a place called Jackie Higgins Saloon and Roominghouse. I went there all the time. Then they went and tore it down and built the Century. I never stepped foot in that place.

Yeah, it is tragic what has been torn down in this town but that shouldn't stop you from picking up a peck of bananas now and again.

The only glaring issue I see is that they don't sell any Colt 45.

I never stepped foot in Jackie Higgins Saloon and Rooming House. They tore down one of the most interesting tepees in what is now downtown STL to build it and I never forgave them.

It was crazy today. Went for the ribbon cutting and for a late lunch. It was hard to get in there were so many people. I counted 32 employees behind the prepared food counter alone. The checkouts are the "Wendy's" style lines - very good idea as you can't get stuck in the slow line. Prices were good and things were running pretty smoothly despite the onslaught.

Do you mean they carry the folding/2 wheel shopping carts? If so, where were they? I need one.

P.S. And for the record, I'm not pissed off. Their prices are normal Schnucks prices.

They don't need to redo the store, they need to redo the people who shop there.

The new store is great!

One minor complaint: No andouille in the sausage section! I don't know if that was just today or always. Can't complain too much - the other Schnuck's don't always have it either. Maybe they only make it once in a while? It was too damn busy to ask anyone.

Oh, and if your look for lightbulbs in aisle 4b (which is what the sign says), don't - they're 1 aisle over. :x

Yeah I always find myself calling in advance to see if they have any of the sausage that I'm looking for... big fan of the "stadium sausage."

When I'm unable to get to G&W or Viviano's (given their limited hours), Schnuck's actually makes some very good sausage.

@ 7:30pm Packed with shoppers - check out lines packed!

I'm lovin it!

The store wants suggestions on products - I told one of the managers to carry larger cottage cheese - they are only carring small containers - and his response was "we will get them" as he was writing it down. The staff was up and down the aisles asking suggestions and answering questions - writing them down at that!

I have to again give it to Schnucks - they have come way out on top with this incredible store!

At the checkouts - when you enter the line - they are near check out #3 I believe on the wall.

Just went from 9:30 to Closing. It was a very good crowd in there.

Warning: Fiancee is a hardcore Wholefoods shopper.

Overall the place is VERY nice, and hard to believe it is 1/3 the size of a regular grocery store since it has so much stuff.

My lady gave the store a B+ which is excellent for her standards. She said she will shop there for everything except Beef and Seafood. Chicken selection was good as was the produce selection.

Compared to Wholefoods the seafood selection/freshness really cant compare. As for the beef, she was looking for more "organic" items as well as grass fed beef.

It was a little scary shopping in a new grocery store, not knowing where everything else, what they have, etc.

It was fun walking home at 10:00 with some groceries!

PostAug 12, 2009#798

Off Topic.

So I bought a prepared Turkey dinner with mashed potatoes, stuffing, green beans. Not used to this stuff, as I mentioned I shop at Wholefoods.

I was a little scared to see the label. I kid you not, it must have had 50+ ingredients in this thing. I could have used the label as packaging tape it was so long.

O yea, and TOM C. seems like a very jolly man. Could be a good Santa during X-mas. :)

a grocery store that is open until 10 pm yay yay ya y yay yay!!!!!!!!!

I will NEVER forget the Saturday evening I drove around, looking for a loaf of French bread near SOulard, downtown, Laf Sqaure. It wasn't that late , must have been after 7 pm but before 8 pm and not luck:

1) not something Vincent's carries

2 ) Bread Co in Soulard- was closed

3) City Grocers--out of stock'

No other option.

But, no more! :D :D :D :D
