They folded like a wet house of cards in a Missouri rain storm! But seriously, must not have been a firm decision if maybe a dozen comments and some Tweets changed their tune. Nice work guys and great to see Schnucks being responsive!

Man, I'm impressed. It's amazing how this played out and how quickly the (poor) decision was reversed. Well done to all who spoke up!
Good News!
I haven't heard this directly from them yet though.
I still think it is important to let them know of your disappointments in the change.
We need to remain dilligent and responsive.
We also need to continue to serve them.
SHOP LATE FROM NOW ON!

Good Job everyone.
The store is not as crowded as it was a year ago. It doesn't matter if it 2 on Sun or 9pm on Tues, it just doesn't have the same amount of foot traffic. Not to say there isn't a decent amount, just not as much as before. So make sure you are visiting this store whenever possible. It's important that this store does well and is open till 10 at night. If they were doing insane business from 8-10 this would have never have come up.
I think ther was a lot of people that live further away that were going there because it is such a unique fun store. However after a while that dies off and they fall back into their old habits.
Schnucks ownership needs to be careful considering they received a public handout and the building that once sat at the same spot was a masterpiece.
Can anyone confirm the reasonn why this was under consideration?

At this time, there will be no changes

I will send the results to Culinaria. (Please keep emailing them as well.)
Your poll says "The store should open at 6 AM so I can do groceries before going to work" but it's already open at 6AM.

WOW! I am much happier today than I was yesterday. Have been out running around ALL day and was very happy to see what transpired since the first post yesterday. Kudos to all! And to answer Innovation's question, it was conveyed to me that it was part personal, which was based partly on business by the store manager to change the hours. I may have taken some of the comments made to me out of context but had a good enough feel to post what I did and am glad I did it. It's now 9:50 p.m. Off to Culinaria I go!
Thanks bprop, has been corrected. Please keep voting though. If anything, it will send a message to Culinaria that we care about the store.bprop wrote:the count wrote:To make it easy to share your opinion on Culinaria's intend to reduce their opening hours I created and online poll.

Good work guys. Now let's see what you can do about the Historic Tax Credits up in Jeff City.
I've been in Afghanistan for 8 months now and shopping at the Culinaria is one of the things I really miss...lol...Of course I also miss zipping back home and whipping something up with a glass of wine while keeping an eye on teh Downtown skyline...Doing dishes, not so much...
I wonder if the decision had anything to do with getting employees home via Metro? I never have to ride that late during the week...

No it had nothing to do with Metro since in operates till 12:30.
It sounds like the manager is tired of putting in long hours so the 8-10 period will be eliminated since it is probably the least profitable. I am not confident that their decision to remain open till 10, will be permanent. It wasn't busy last night at 8pm.

^ The comment I made to them was that even if 8-10pm is not profitable, it is necessary. Say I shop there after 8pm only once per month and before 8pm 6x. Seems like they could cut hours, right? But all it takes is for someone to try to go to a store or restaurant a couple times and have them be closed to alter behavior. So even if it's only every once-in-a-while the extra operating hours would lead me to shop there more often during earlier hours as well.
Interesting. Culinaria's website says the store closes at 8pm.
My tweet from May 19th:
@STLCulinaria is still scaling back their hours. They will now close at 9 PM on Saturday and Sunday, weekdays at 10 PM. #STL
This is the new schedule they put up at the store.

I don't know why. But I did my grocery shopping there last night and they had the 10pm weekday and 9pm weekend closing time sign up on the door.downtown2007 wrote:So why does their website say 8?

Yes the 10pm close weekday are correct. Store close at 9 on Fri and Sat.

Just happened to see this post in a search. It deserves a 14 year bump.matt wrote: ↑Apr 10, 2007The question where do you shop for groceries is just as frustrating as the mentality of the entire article..."we're waiting for our suburban supermarket business model to work in downtown". That dog won't hunt! Don't these people EVER travel to urban areas either domestic or international??
In most cases, it is never a deficiency in the market but rather in the interpretation of the market.
For years Wehrenberg tried to fit it's tiny slipper on the big fat foot of Union Station. They couldn't conceive of the fact that they may have to consider doing what they do differently. Then along comes the Chase Cinemas and the Moolah. oh.
Do old St. Louis companies EVER have "aha!" moments?
I’ve been hoping downtown Schnucks extends their hours back…closing at 7pm is way too early for me. Kinda sucks when I need to go out and get groceries in the evening and the closest supermarket to me is already closing up shop lol.
Maybe not until the labor shortages wane. Even big box retail stores like Best Buy are still closing at 7pm. Mall stores are still closing at 5 or 6pm. Bigger Schnucks that used to close at 11pm, midnight or were 24 hour are still closing at 10pm.eflurer wrote: ↑Jun 18, 2021I’ve been hoping downtown Schnucks extends their hours back…closing at 7pm is way too early for me.
