Rumors are swirling on Twitter about the return of City Gourmet to the Simply Fondue space at 16th and Locust. *fingers crossed*

But Culinaria KILLED City Gourmet. It can't be. It's impossible...it's a zombie store!!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Maybe they'll do better if they get farther away from Schnuck's.Boombox wrote:Rumors are swirling on Twitter about the return of City Gourmet to the Simply Fondue space at 16th and Locust. *fingers crossed*

@countondowntown
There will be no City Gourmet in former Simply Fondue space at Printers Lofts. However, an Internet Cafe will be opening there in December.

An Internet cafe? Seriously? I'll give this one about 6 months.
Pfft that sucks. I'm hoping they can return in some form sometime soon. Or at least their beer selection and asian stir fry.

I think they would. Not sure how the lunch crowd would do in the old SF spot thought. It's mostly residential out there.
Do you want them to come back or would you prefer Sappington's proposal for a new market on Truman Pkwy/next to the old City Hospital happen?
For all the warmth for City Gourmet, I think it would be a better outcome to see Sappington Market or well placed Trader's Joes on the otherside of Lafayette Square (thinking old Food Lion store).

Trader Joe's...Trader Joe's...Trader Joe's! Whatever goes up will need a parking lot or access to a garage like the Culinaria...
Ive been in Aghanistan for a few months now and was in training all summer, so I cant speak to recent shopping patterns, but last spring there were times when it got a little too crowded in the Culinaria...Made me think how long it will take for another option to sprout up (downtown west) if the residency numbers nearly double again this decade...
And let me add again...I LOVE THE CULINARIA!!! Great prices, free parking (though I can walk, kinda sux in the winter tho), great selections, great prices, NOT TOO BIG (I shop like the absent-minded prof, so I end up losing my tails like a Family Circus kid)...I actually shop there nearly daily as I buy for that evenings meal (I hate throwing food out).

Internet cafe? What year is this?
Maybe that would be a good idea if they had a youth hostel downtown.

NEW HOURS GOING INTO EFFECT 4/25. So the store will now close at 8:00 p.m. every night starting the 25th. Personally I AM NOT HAPPY ABOUT THIS! I mean the store will be closing before it even gets dark. Are you kidding me? I always see a decent amount of people in there between 8 and 10. Story I got was that it was not a "business" decision necessarily, more of a "personal" decision by the store manager and that his decision is not set in stone. Well, unfortunately they will be losing some of my business now. I hope enough people complain and the hours go back to closing at 10:00. I let them know my opinions.

What's your source on it being a "personal" decision? I almost always shop after 8pm here and agree that there is a decent number of customers. I'm going to complain also
Bad news... it is TRUE.
Called the store manager and they just got word today she said.
Too bad.

not sure what the reasoning is behind it - especially with Summer coming up.

Sent my message - couldn't find "Culinaria" or "Downtown" in the drop-down, so I just made it clear in my comments.

Their response: "Please accept our apologies for your disappointment and potential inconvenience with this change of store hours... but also our thanks for taking the time to send your thoughts, comments, and recommendations."
I once complained to Schnucks that I couldn't buy red lentils at their Lindell store and I had to go to Clayton Road to find them. They were very responsive, though last I checked nary a red lentil is to be found on Lindell.

Since the decision was made by the manager, it appears to be a managerial/business decision. Perhaps you can elaborate on what you meant by "personal" decision? The way your statement was made implies the decision was based upon some sort of whim.irocktheparty2000 wrote:NEW HOURS GOING INTO EFFECT 4/25. To make it easy to share your opinion on Culinaria's intend to reduce their opening hours I created and online poll.
You can vote HERE
I will send the results to Culinaria. (Please keep emailing them as well.)

Sounds like it's a done deal. Schnuck's response to my email:
