That doesn't mean she was targeted because she was Bosnian. Media trying to make it into a race thing.

Not sure what kind of mental issues would cause one to make up such a story, but I'm hoping this allows some Bosnians to breathe a little easier

It's sad but true thats its probably much easier to blame a black person than a white person for crime . She should be a shamed of herself ..
True_Dope I'm sorry about what happened good to know you weren't harmed and are ok!

^Yeah, I was immediately reminded of the girl with the fractured face, thanks to her loser boyfriend, that claimed she herself was a victim of the Knockout Game outside of the Trophy Room. It wasn't good press for the bar. It happens, thankfully the PD sometimes catches it. Things are already tense without this nonsense.

^ the "witness #40" in the Michael Brown case that is starting to get some scrutiny sounds like a really messed up piece of work as well.

but trying to bring a bit of humor to the crime thread, here's a classic Saint Louis crime story!

My guess is "Witness #40" will soon have her own blog like The Gateway Pundit!

Seriously though, while I tend to agree with the GJ ruling there are some glaring problems with how this whole thing was conducted.

From allowing Wilson to bag his own evidence to having this nut bag who drives through black neighborhoods so she'll see them as "people instead of n----" to testify as a witness. It's just a tragicomedy of errors.

Would a recall of McCulloch be possible? I realize it would be a long shot, as the white majority in St. Louis County would coalesce around him, but is there a mechanism for recall?

I don't know, but I'd rather the energy required to carry one out would go to trying to pass other reforms.

Jennifer M. Joyce @JenniferJoyceCA

Manhattan stats: 1.6M population and 32 murders. #STL stats: 318K population and 151 murders. Unacceptable.

Yeah but....New Haven....they made it just like Compton.

Seriously though, its an apple to oranges comparison. Turn a map of Manhattan on its side and basically just overlay Central Park with Forest Park and then run the numbers. We should just have Obama write a memorandum moving the borders around so St. Louis looks better. North city can be renamed the Brinx. And south city can be South Brooklyn or something and so on and so on.

^ NYC only had 299 homicides in the entire freaking city through 12/7. Our number is unacceptable. And shameful.

New York metro crime is significantly lower than here. So is Boston's. So is Portland, OR. But we are kind of average, if not better than average, for the midwest, are we not?

^ Not as much as you might believe. I calculated 9% above avg. for midwestern cities >1m pop + Memphis, Louisville, & Pittsburgh for the year 2012 (not including Cleveland & Columbus). 25% above avg. for 2011 though (inc. Cleveland & Columbus).

151 isn't acceptable its completely destructive and down right dangerous to a city that already has already near severe image problem.
If your city population is at 315,000 you should be barely treading 25 or so homicides not 40 not 50 and certainly 151.
Clean it up St.Louis if other cities can do it theres no reason why we can't significantly take control and get our city back.

So Newport News is known as "The Bad News" for a reason, as some sections of the city are extremely rough. I listened to a brief from one of the city's detectives about how the city has had 26 homicides so far this year, emphasizing 26 as a huge number for a city of 180,000. I made the comparison in my head: 26 homicides in a city with a rough reputation being presented by the police as out of control crime, compared to 151 in a city of 318,000 with people still blaming the numbers for making St. Louis look bad. The first step towards recovery is admitting you have a problem.

^ yup. I really don't care how much the lack of homicides in the cow pastures of our region might compare to others and if the cities of Cincy and Cleveland and Pittsburgh and other roughly similar rust belt cities with roughly similar poverty rates had roughly similar homicide rates then I might feel a teensy bit better, but if they have roughly similar rates (which they don't although Cleveland arguably could be in the conversation) they also have an unacceptable and shameful number.

If we could lower the the City of's homicide rate down to the County's homicide rate, then even leaving ESL alone, we'd be sitting pretty with Minny/StPaul. But how to? The City of's rate has been atrocious for over 100 years, from what I understand.

I could blame it on that Billiken troll thingy, but it's so cute!

In fact, I didn't even know the sammy shop had opened (I'm in the Gravois chapter ;), as opposed to the Broadway chapter of the club). Thanks for the heads up. I'll be checking out the corned beef pronto.

Walked by a guy snorting cocaine on the steps to the Union Station metrolink yesterday. I informed a uniformed officer, who didn't appear to do anything about it.

NYC at have greatly reduced its murders over the years (from 2200 25 yrs ago to 300 or do for 2014) but bad things still happen there. Sadly today 2 NYPD officers were murdered execution style in Brooklyn.
