It’s much better for the downtown to have 70,000 people for a football game. I don’t care about how the dome Authority does. We need to have the rising tide that lifts all boats for downtown.

The third rate bowl game we’d be in line for isn’t drawing 70K. The Dome probably wouldn’t even open the second level for it. So if the trade off is ~35K people for one night in lieu of one of the massive three-day volleyball tournaments, I’m not surprised we don’t have a bowl game.

Many of the bowl games only get like 10K-15K in attendance.

It would still be nice to have one here, but I wouldn’t be surprised if another event/convention during that time would be a bigger draw.

The Dome may be better off courting the MHSA to move the state championship games to the Dome.

There are exceptions. Like San Antonio, who drew 64K to one of the better, but not elite bowls.

They’ve done a nice job tapping into a larger city with no NFL presence. We could eventually build a bowl event like that here.

Watching a bowl game indoors in Detroit, and an outdoor bowl in Nashville, and a Snoop Dog bowl somewhere, made me think a World Wide Technology Bowl in St Louis would be a nice tradition to start.

The “don’t bother we’d only draw 15k” is the reason civically STL is in this mess. People that are OK with malaise and make excuses for it instead of having high standards.

I think the argument is more that whatever convention or other event that the Dome currently hosts at the time when they could theoretically have a low level bowl game draws more than the bowl game would.

Busch Stadium probably could host a bowl game though since there is literally nothing going on there in December.

I feel like Enterprise or Anheuser-Busch Bowl would be better. I think Anheuser has enough pull in football they could pull a big game.

When I worked at Busch Stadium (version 1) we used to host a bowl game for HBCU schools.  Maybe the gateway bowl?  The time I worked it was MVSU and maybe Alcorn State, or Jackson State.  Great crowd, and helped extend the stadium season

Ok, I looked it up…it was an early season game, so not a bowl game in the traditional sense. MVSU and Howard, 23000 attendance.

^ oh that sounds cool.

As for a bowl here, all I can say is that Ty-D-Bol Toilet Bowl Cleaner is made here.  It could be legendary!

Bowl games generally are the week before Christmas through New Years Day.  The earliest one this year was Dec 14th.  Can't see that being a heavy convention time.

If we were to get a bowl the first matchup would be SEMO vs Lindenwood and 11,000 fans would attend.

You’d probably get more at a CBC DeSmet game.

SEMO and Lindenwood are both FCS schools, thus not bowl eligible.

How about the Post Raisin Bran Cereal Bowl.

In all likelihood, it would be some insurance
or financial services sponsoring with an awful Bowl name, like many of the current games.

I knew someone that worked at the old Planet Hollywood on The Landing. She said her best weekends were the MHSA games.

It’s true that both those schools are D1, but D1 is split up into FBS (schools like Mizzou), and FCS (schools like Lindenwood and SEMO). FCS schools aren’t eligible for bowl games.

Lol, I like this one. Currently trying to imagine something ridiculous like the pop tart bowl for 'building a bear' at halftime.
