Demo permit issued for garage at 911 N 9th St
Garage demolition is in progress, I wonder how long until new construction will begin.quincunx wrote: ↑Oct 02, 2021Demo permit issued for garage at 911 N 9th St
Would the best way to sum up the latest on Convention Upgrades is fractional petty politics continues to rule the day? Heck, maybe NFL/Rams should officer something because all the players on the receiving end won't agree on anything.

At some point maybe a younger citizen sick and tired of our region not being able to get schitttt done around here will rule up both sides and show a better way…..
Doubt that their is not much new on latest biz journal article referencing County's hold up on Convention Upgrade. I would argue it is vital part of downtown activity, business and hotel stays/tax generation that the city should find a way to bridge gap to keep things moving even if it takes Restore funds headed its way in my opinion

Not directly related to that specifically, but St. Louis Public Schools just put their building at 801 N 11th (the building directly under "N 11th St." in the pic above) for sale.

Depending on who may be interested in buying it, the proximity to the convention center coupled with the LCRA Patrick listed above could be interesting to watch. The Board of Education, which oversees the district, will still occupy the downtown properties but is seeking a buyer that also will build and operate an "an innovation-focused educational facility" free for SLPS students.
And yet, the Holiday Inn that looks likes it's from downtown Elkhart Indiana remains...
^^ Hopefully whomever buys the Public School building spruces up the facade a bit. It’s a really ugly building.
Didn’t they already release the RFP for that lot over a year ago? Must not have gotten great responses the first time around.

I work in the area and we have had many employees travel to our site and some LOVE that Holiday Inn. It was recently redone and because it is an older hotel the rooms are much larger than newer hotels.
Yes and from what I was told, the previous RFP yielded a response for a 14-story apartment building and garage by a local developer. It fell apart when the developer decided that the city wasn’t worth investing in. But that’s what I was told and can’t independently confirm.addxb2 wrote:Didn’t they already release the RFP for that lot over a year ago? Must not have gotten great responses the first time around.
I was under the impression from some reporting in the recent past that Larry Chapman was behind that 14 story tower proposal and backed out because of crime and danger or something along those lines.
With the Convention Center expansion I would guess they’ll get some good responses again. Would love to see Opus take a swing, but with proposals at Delmar/Skinker and Cupples I’m not sure they’ll go for more.

Yes. That’s who it was.sc4mayor wrote:I was under the impression from some reporting in the recent past that Larry Chapman was behind that 14 story tower proposal and backed out because of crime and danger or something along those lines.

Ok, now I am amenable to pursuing an alternative to the current proposal.

^I'm genuinely excited to see what comes out of this.
StlToday - Windfall from NFL settlement won’t change St. Louis convention center expansion plan, Jones says
https://www.stltoday.com/news/local/gov ... f3938.htmlProminent and politically connected businessman Bob Clark has suggested the convention center be redesigned and the attached Dome demolished.
“No, that’s not a conversation I’m willing to have,” Jones said when asked whether the Clayco founder and chairman’s recent campaign for a larger, redesigned convention center expansion might gain traction following the Rams settlement. “We’ve already started down the process for (construction) bids ... so that process should continue.”

First half of convention center out to bid, even as St. Louis County support remains uncertain

But just before Christmas, a working group of city and county officials approved putting the project’s first half — an $83 million expansion of exhibit hall space along Cole Street on the site of a recently demolished parking garage — out to bid. Contractor responses are due March 1 and a contractor should be chosen by early May.
“We had planned that we would already have selected the general contractor for project one,” Ratcliffe said. “That was held up by the County Council conversations. But the city did finally decide to move ahead and get it out on the street.”
Final construction drawings for the second half of the project — construction of a new public plaza on surface lots along Convention Plaza and a new ballroom inside America’s Center — should be complete next month and go out to bid in April, Ratcliffe said.
PD with article on county not really budging but that is coming off headline. Not sure if anything really new to report.

Not sure if Biz Journal article adds much as behind paywall. It does seem to make a lot of sense for UMSL to host north county track & field facility if you were going to add one.

The University of Missouri-St. Louis could host on its campus the recreation facility that's at the heart of a dispute over funding for an expansion of the downtown St. Louis convention center.

The University of Missouri-St. Louis could host on its campus the recreation facility that's at the heart of a dispute over funding for an expansion of the downtown St. Louis convention center.
A spokesman for the university said Tuesday that "leadership" in St. Louis County requested that UMSL study "the feasibility of being the site for a proposed Track and Field Complex in north St. Louis County."
"In response, UMSL enlisted its Master Plan firm Lamar Johnson Collaborative to review the options," the spokesman said. "The firm determined that UMSL property adjacent to the UMSL North Metro Station could be an ideal site for a world-class Track and Field Complex – given its accessibility to public transportation and Interstate 70."
Sc4mayor, I still can’t see the pics your share. Any one else?sc4mayor wrote:Honestly, a pretty good location should it end up happening:
