Two days of driving up I-55 into DTW and I've seen 3 accidents. I-55 is just flat out dangerous through the construction zone, the on ramps don't have nearly enough room to merge.

Nothing really noteworthy about that stretch other than being particularly lawless. It's been narrowed to 2 lanes with jersey barriers.
It's a bit unnerving knowing things like this just happen and we're doing nearly nothing about it.

I honestly wonder if we’ll ever see Missouri and other states develop the state capacity to enforce traffic laws. The situation in the city feels fairly hopeless; rebuilding the arterial network to resemble anything close to a safe system will require tens (likely hundreds) of millions of dollars, and we can’t even put a crosswalk in front of Ted Drewes in a timely manner. If DC and NYC aren’t able to get drivers with tens of thousands of dollars in fines off the road, what hope is there for St. Louis?
I fully expect crashes to revert to the pre-COVID mean over the next couple of years, but that baseline is still unacceptably high, and I just don’t see the city or state developing the motivation or capacity to actually remove reckless drivers from the roads.

FWIW, I've been seeing a marked increase in the number of traffic cops sitting along major streets in U City. Even just their presence should slow some people down.
