I haven't found anything on the news yet, but there was a serious crash this morning on 70 east near Foristell. Body was covered by a sheet and bloodied up. It makes me sick seeing and hearing about all of these car related tragedies.

I would guess that the vast majority of accidents are caused by excessive speeding. Need to use the surpluses to fund significant road diets and pedestrian improvements throughout the city.
Using 2019 data because it’s complete; In Missouri of the 900 roadway fatalities that year
207 alcohol/drug
129 speeding
85 distracted driver 1
46 failed to yield.
Any info just on accidents and not fatalities?

^ yes the database can be filtered by all crashes, fatal or just injuries and then by primary cause which there are a few dozen like those above but the problem is when you run all crash report the system can only split back 10,000 crashes at once so for even STL city you cant just do a year you have to search month by month and add it all but and I’m not doing that unless I’m paid to do it

There's a lot of good ideas here, but I wonder if anyone is talking about the impact of development codes on traffic fatalities. I don't think it's unreasonable to say parking minimums, low density development, and single use zoning all contribute to this by putting more people in cars, and thus more  automotive traffic on our streets. I've been preaching traffic circles and road diets for a few years now. (And got off the "restore the grid" train and accepted that Schoemel pots and Slay balls really can serve a useful purpose.) But all of this will work so much better if you put it together with good development practices. I hate to use business buzzwords like "holistic" and "synergies" but I think they kind of fit here. We will realize some real synergies if we take a holistic approach to the traffic problem: change the development guidelines while we're putting your streets on that paleolithic diet and investing transportation dollars in high capacity steel wheels on dedicated steel roads.

Yes, I talk about how zoning  , land use, and development patterns coerce driving and render cheaper safer more environmentally friendly modes impractical all the time. They also render places insolvent in the long term.

^Sorry. You very much do. I suppose I meant "I wonder if anyone in government controlling the purse strings is thinking seriously about this yet." And some folks are, but . . . not enough.

I've seen a lot of bollards put up in north city for these reasons.
