An empty lot gone! I really hope this place works out and anchors that area even more.

anyone know of a current rendering? the parcel size is pretty funkily shaped... i'm wondering if they plan on closing 14th south of Lafayette (which seems like it would make sense since it dead ends anyway).

I suppose something like this is too much to hope for. You could in theory end 14th street at Lafayette and have more than enough room next to the Walgreens to push a store up to the streetfront. Use the Walgreens entrance and 13th Street for folks who want to park in the back.

At one time, they had planned to close the nearby highway ramp (12th and Gravois exit?) to increase the developable land for this project. Unsure if that is still in the plan.

I've been told that the building will be on the southern part of the site, which is very strangely shaped. That means it won't front on Lafayette. I assume the northern part of the site will be parking.

I haven't seen renderings of the current design. When they were looking to build a few blocks north, UIC did the preliminary design for that site. I don't know whether UIC is still the architect. I have been told that the new design is good, FWIW.

The old rendering:

The plan wasn't for the highway ramp to be closed but to be redesigned to hug the Turman Parkway ramp:

That rendering was not for this site but behind the Old City Hospital, at the southeast corner of Park Avenue and Truman Parkway:

Thanks for the clarifications!

It does get rid of the current 12th and Gravois exit ramp and creates a new Truman exit.

As of last weekend, the store now has a name ... Fields Foods, to open Fall 2013. The 33,000 s.f. retail store will be part of a larger business (St. Louis Food Hub) that includes processing, distribution and marketing of locally produced food.

Hands down this is a Development of the Year nominee. Someone is getting smart out there. How refreshing.

I would love to see new renderings. The idea sounds great but everying points to strip center without the significant residential/dense development next to it that was proposed in the original plans.

Now the renderings/proposed infill of a store/urban garden on the roof/apartment building to the north of old city hospital would win a development of the year nomination.

The tower needs to stay. It would stick out above the whole neighborhood and give it a "face."

Refer to my previous post-those renderings are for a DIFFERENT project a few blocks to the north.

We have not seen any renderings to date for this project.

FYI - expect renderings posted to the website (http://www.stlouisfoodhub.com/fields.html) within a week or two...

That's the word from Food Hub Sales/Marketing Director.

^this is exciting. The tractors are at work on the southside of the Walgreens parking lot and temporary erosion fencing is being installed along the Lafayette sidewalk just east of the Walgreens entrance.

I talked with them a week or two ago, and they said to expect renderings to be on the website in the last half of April.

The slow start on this project has raised a few eyebrows. Financing including new markets was complete and buildng permits in place six months ago. With money and politics not the issue, no one seems to know the cause of the delay. It's weird. Maybe some geological surprise, design change, personal situation? Anyone know?

It does butt up against the highway. Maybe there could have been an issue with the federal highways or some type of review process required.
