I have heard a rumor of them starting to work on construction of BP like in April. I have no idea if this is true, i just heard it from a very reliable source. Anyone got any info on the subject?

The last I heard was August. April may be possible, but I think they want to get the Ballpark completely finished and Clark rebuilt. The sooner they start the better.

Channel 2 is supposed to do a story on Ballpark Village tonight. They showed 2 of the renderings at the begining of the news.

PostFeb 15, 2006#206

Here's a recap of the story. All of the plans are final, including the latest renderings on this thread. There will be 1200 condos, office and retail space. The restaurants and shops will be generally upscale. The bowling museum will be demolished and the grid will be a true grid, making six new blocks. Construction will start before the end of the season, and it will be finished in early 2008. The Cardinals are providing the land, but Cordish is handling all of the development. Sounds like the worked well with Rollin Stanley, since he was interviewed in the story. They may go for some tax breaks, but they don't know what yet. Personally, I would have no problem with some breaks for a $450 million project.

Wish I had seen the story. I hope the Post does a good-sized piece on it soon. This all sounds great!

While I remain skeptical about The Bottle District, I have no doubt that Ballpark Village will soon become a reality. I can't wait!

I wonder where the Bowling Hall of Fame will end up.

If a six-block grid, I wonder if 8th street will become bi-directional north of Clark, since no longer connecting into 7th (aka Stadium Plaza).

The recent Downtown Traffic Study recommended that the best street for one-way to two-way conversion was indeed 8th Street, especially between Washington (Convention Center terminus) and Market. But maybe the Ballpark Village plans will allow 8th Street to become two-way south of Market to Clark.

They reshowed it this morning and they mentioned that two towers will be residential. They haven't posted the story on the website yet, but I'll keep my eye out for it.

New Renderings (At least I don't remember them before):

Slide 7: Shows three tall towers.

Slide 5: On some new street between Walnut Street and Clark Street looking West. See site plan below. I would guess this is new too since this shows the "blue glass roof thing" shown in the 'arial slide'.

Slide 6: On Clark Street looking East (see the building with notch one of the new towers)

Those are the most recent renderings of which I'm aware. If those are now "finalized" I'm stoked. .... I thought the channle 2 story mentioned 2 towers though.

I guess this means that those parking garages called Stadium east and west will remain unless towers could be built on top of those one day since the structures could hold such weight.

I am excited for a dense and concentrated village of 1,200 units and hope Cordish and the Cardinals market the heck out of this to STL and many other parts of the nation (east coast). Build NOW!!!

I cannot wait for this to be completed. It's projects that this that are keeping me in STL longer than I originally intended.

the story is online now and there are 10 sketches of the project. I don't have time to post them now, but if someone else can that'd be great :D

AN EXCLUSIVE LOOK AT THE FINAL PLANS FOR BALLPARK VILLAGE

The owner of the Cardinals says the project is just a few months away from getting started. The village will contain about 400,000 square feet of retail space, including upscale shops and restaurants. It will also feature twin 22-story condo towers with about 1,200 condominiums. The Cardinals provide the land. Baltimore's Cordish Company Developers put up most of the hundreds of millions, and taxpayers will be asked for things like tax breaks. Bill Dewitt said, "On Clark Street, it'll be very exciting and a very high level of activity and energy. You'll have retail, you'll have bars, and you'll have restaurants?maybe a live music venue. The Cardinals museum will be there as well." The developer says the shops and restaurants will be upper-end.

I'd wager demand will be so strong they're going to have to sell condos with a view of the field by some kind of lottery system! That picture has certainly perked my interest!
