It never got mentioned here, but 5351 Murdoch (Macklind and Murdoch) has been undergoing a gut rehab this winter and spring. It's supposed to be an upscale Irish pub plus retail storefronts plus upstairs apartments when finished this year.

If my maths are right that is 616 units added to the central corridor in the last few months... not bad! (I think some at Gallery 515 and Lacassian were available tail end of 2013, but still!) Looking ahead, Tower OPOP and Southside Station are scheduled for this Spring adding another 150 or so and it looks like Aventura II and North Sarah II are coming along nicely adding another 200... we'll easily surpass 1,000 new multi-family units this year... probably that many alone just in the Central Corridor. 2015 already looks great, too, depending upon the Arcade and Chemical.

edit: 2015 looks even greater with building permit issued for West Pine Lofts' 206 units!

This week -- and Saint Louis Neighborhood Development Blog -- keeps bringing the good news! Added 1214 Washington, for which building permit has been submitted for commercial rehab of ground floor and 5 units above.... this used to be the Mossa furniture building.



The blog also reports that the Arcade-Wright permit for $75 million has been submitted and work is planned to begin next month. Also, two-family infill is coming to Olive in the CWE (not adding due to limited scope but great to see the infill continue.)

There are a little vague.

SAG Properties (same owners of the Castle Ballroom) continue to buy up and renovate smaller properties in the 2800 and 2900 blocks of Locust and Olive.

Also, I'm expecting the five-story building at 2647 Locust (across from the planned telephone exchange renovation) to be renovated. Probable residential... maybe around 15 units?

^ That's a nice building on Locust.... hopefully this all comes together; with The Beaumont and this, I'd think the adjacent two-story would have a strong chance of redeveloping in short order as well. So was T.S. Elliot born right around there?

I thought his place was near Diablo in Midtown. I was told it was like right next to that building but I could be wrong. I read part of a book about him when I was in Seattle and it showed his old house and I knew where it was at the time but have since forgotten. I think it was around that area, though.

Ha. Already on my "if I win the lottery" project list. Only I was going to call it Noilly Cat...based on info in a recent Distilled History post on T.S. Eliot.

There's a bar called Wilde on Chicago's northside which has (or had) a heavy focus on Oscar Wilde and his works. The staff's shirts all had quotes, books and plays lined some of the walls. I think they've moved away from the theme a bit though...
