I think sadly most Americans don't know what good architecture is.

Updated to include Cathedral Square plans, which have been confirmed. Not sure on schedule but assume post 2014 opening. Also, the twitterverse is reporting apartments may be coming to the old Sherman School in Shaw.... nice!

PostFeb 26, 2014#29

I like it when I get to post two positive additions in a day.... updated to include Gerhart Lofts

PostFeb 27, 2014#30

updated to include the Home2Suites by Hilton brand that will go on Taylor next to the Adventurd.... construction to begin in May.

So in two days we've seen official announcements for the Cathedral Brewing, Gerhart Lofts and Hilton extended stay hotel.... not too shabby!

The hotel looks terrible. Just terrible. I hope it goes out of business and is torn down in less than a year, then gets replaced with something more like...Well, pretty much anything else.

Compared to the Aventura, the hotel looks like the Chase Park Plaza. Seriously though, it seems like a tower (or at least a 6-7 story building) would've worked well here, given its proximity to BJC, Highway 40 and MetroLink. I wonder why they went for the roadside motel variety.

Are you guys talking about the picture in that STLToday article?

First off, isn't that just a photo of an existing hotel elsewhere? Secondly, does it really look that bad? It's a little bland but it's not that bad. I'd be more concerned with it's orientation to the street than any complaints about how it looks.

^ I think the orientation comes out a lot better if they build the proposed corner building. I believe a few renderings of both the proposed hotel and office building can be found on the forum.

Sltgasm, I can see your point on 6-7 story but also think the scale is fine for that immediate area and the developer dropping another phase of the same underwhelming apartment project a plus. To me, I think the area will see a mix of hotels in time. In that respect I would rather see Drury put its Kings Highway urban hotel back on the plate. I believe the original rendering had two 6 to 8 story buildings that stayed away from their typical chain design and fit much better for an urban environment. In addition, I would very much rather hotel height across the freeway as part of the CORTEX infill. This hotel serves a market and a niche. However, it would be much more underwhelming if it was part of CORTEX.

The development news keeps on a comin..... awesome development in mid-town for the Beaumont Building. Man I hope this is a sign of even more great things to happen in that area.

Updated to move over two central corridor projects from the "expected completion" column to "completed" category.... UC in the Grove and Cortona, which is now taking move-ins. I also think some people are working in @4240 but not sure if its officially "opened" so I'm keeping it off for now.

I'd love to see something like that.

Somewhat related, I've always thought it would be cool to have a visualization of what downtown and central corridor might look like in the future with a renewed population at different level, e.g. 500,000 and our high water mark of 850K. (If we grew 10% per decade it would take us until 2060 to surpass 500K... oh my.)

btw, updated the list above to include the Intrada Lofts @ 2035 Locust.

PostMar 02, 2014#45

edited to add the Gallery 515 apartments at the Millennium Center.... not quite sure when move-ins began or if the entire project is done. From the photo gallery, the apartments look nicer than the W building:

Also, Lacledes Lofts plan for move-ins beginning April 1.

updated below to include Globe Drug building conversion to U-Haul facility and completion of the moves of t-rex businesses from RRX to the new Lammert home.... they'll continue work on the Lammert and engage in fundraising.

They still have a few thousand dollars to raise. It will be on Morganford. Should be nice for St. Louis' image to skaters because we don't have a real skatepark in the City right now.
