Why is the forum so bloody slow (sometimes)?

The forum organization, logins, admins & moderators would not change. There likely would be a phpBB upgrade for reasons of security and enhanced features. Performance would no longer be an issue. We'll share more after discussion w/ the primary stakeholders.

Let's cross our fingers that there will be synergy, partnership, and much rejoicing throughout the kingdom!

The forum will be moving to a new server sometime in the next couple of days. This will require an outage of service. We will work to keep this time to a minimum, but it could take a little while to get everything back up and running right. When we move, the new and improved urbanstl.com will also launch Several exciting components are in the works, and it should be a much more useful and in depth website.

Admins of this forum say they are fixing it and new things are coming, etc etc, yet of course it never happens. So I guess nothing really can get done in this town.

We tried to a couple weeks ago and had a problem with the database. We are going to try again soon, possibly Monday night. We have to get it done by the end of this month either way.

Sure, we're all ready to see it happen, and we are all tired of the slowness and database errors...but you have to remember, nobody is getting paid to administer/moderate/operate this forum. I'm sure it's costing somebody some money somewhere, in fact.

Assuming nothing goes wrong after we start, urbanstl is moving tonight. We will hopefully be back up on Friday morning.

Of course, but if you lose your traffic for the above reasons then what good is that.

It's taking me a minute to take this all in here. Brand new computer today. Check urbanstl for the first time in a few weeks and WOW. Talk about a pretty drastic change. Loving it so far guys (and gals if any were involved). Thank you very much for all the hard work I am sure that it took.
