St. Charles County is considering a 6 month ban on new apartment construction in unincorporated areas.

There has only been 1 apartment development in an unincorporated part of St. Charles in the last 20 years.

I don't typically get into labeling, but this might be the most Boomer quote I've ever read:

"Apartments are a necessary evil because they provide housing for our community's kids and grandkids," Elam said. The question, he said, is where apartments should be built, or if the county should push for other types of multi-family housing developments, including duplexes, condos and townhomes.


"We've got to have housing for our kids," he said. "If we don't get this figured out, then they will move away because they can't afford to live here, and there goes our county's future."

Basically apartments are inherently bad, but that's all the youngs can afford. I'm surprised he didn't drop in a note about how they need apartments to pay property tax since it's unfair for the olds to pay it.

My draw dropped at that one as well, completely out of touch with reality.

The median age of renters in the US is 42. As housing becomes increasingly out of reach for a large segment of the middle-class, apartments serve a bigger role than ever.

O'Fallon may consider a 1 year ban on construction of housing with 5 or more units as soon as Thursday.

This is the result of able-minded people who come together for the benefit of their constituents. They are not distracted by the welfare state politics that have handcuffed St. Louis county and city. They simply want to attract jobs that every citizen can apply for if they are willing to work. 

This is a county that can afford to have a moratorium on data centers when they have achievements like this:

It’s been a good several years since I’ve seen the data, so it could have changed by now (or my memory may be a bit off), but I believe it was over 60% of manufacturing jobs in St. Charles County are held by people who don’t live in the county. Even fewer St. Charles County residents work in the big logistics centers in the county, such as Amazon.

I have no idea, but these are new jobs for everyone willing to work.

Because we all know St. Charles has more jobs than St. Louis County and St. Louis City, for sure lol. And let's pretend tens of thousands of St. Charles residents, especially those who are high paid, do not drive across the river everyday to make their money

Italian pasta maker Bertagni to purchase and renovate a 102,000 square foot facility formerly occupied by General Mills at 3850 Millstone Parkway in St. Charles City.

The total investment is valued at $33.2 million.

St. Charles is issuing $35 million in industrial revenue bonds and ~$4.5 million tax incentives, a 50% property tax break for 20 years and a sales tax break on new purchased equipment. The agreement calls for at least 70 new employees by 2029 and 150 by 2034.
