Shared the news about demolition commencing on my CityScene Facebook and I’ve been enjoying the comments. Many people ripping on Downtown and the City for reasons we all know Facebook users complain about. People saying this will be an empty lot forever. Others saying the apartments will go vacant.

It’s always the naysayers who whine and then if something’s successful, they shut up for the most part (see City Foundry),

The apartments will not be vacant if built lol. But an empty lot is an improvement over a vacant and 2 unadaptable towers.

I wonder if there is any consideration of bringing back some sort of signature restaurant to the top of this building.  Probably not realistic, but a new revolving restaurant would be pretty cool.

What's the difference in workable/billable hours to demo this in 6 months with more crew vs 2 years with less crew? Genuinely asking because it would seem like the same thing cost wise and I am unfamiliar with the industry/process.  Maybe that crew size doesn't even exist of course.

Maybe they're also slow rolling the demolition because they know the US economy is going to be rough for a few years? Wait to come out of the recession and start building when things are better nationally.

I think it’s just a very delicate project and they’re probably overestimating to allow for unforeseen circumstances. If all goes well, it’ll probably be visually gone by this time next year.

The site plan said "Currents Restaurant and viewing deck" on the top floor of the office building.

My McKendree College Homecoming memories are buried somewhere in that rubble...  It's time, great to see the progress and love to hear what Bob O and others are doing for DT.  There is no reason we can't have the best DT in the Midwest.  The bones are still there.

Maybe but I think the clearance wouldn’t work with current height of the highway, it would have to start slopping down further south to make it work.

I'm assuming you would have to incorporate some type of gap between any new lid and existing to keep from having to incorporate additional and most likely costly mechanical ventilation requirements .   Of course, always creative ways to incorporate and hide from eye level/pedestrian perspective.
