Went the Arnold Sugarfire last year and you could already tell things were not good. Went there for a relative's birthday and dinnertime on a Thursday was slow. Food was barely average.Fraydog wrote: ↑Oct 03, 2025Arnold might have too many places for its population.Auggie wrote:https://fox2now.com/news/missouri/sugar ... on-friday/

Note Worthy Cafe at Olive and Newstead is coming along nicely. Still don’t love the giant concrete blocks but the rest of it turned out pretty cool.

The Masala Republic is now open at 1325 Washington, first indian to open in downtown in a long time
^^According to some early renderings found in this blog post, it looks like they originally wanted to spruce up the outer fence a bit more with artwork of Scott Joplin and sheet music (looks like The Entertainer). I wonder if this is still the plan. Hope so.

That was a weird move from the start. Clayton doesn’t have a shortage of good breakfast options for its size. Most are on the other side of town but it still was a weird move imo.
I've noticed a big change over the last two years in Clayton breakfast restaurants. At least on weekends they used to be busy because the places would be swamped with all the Wash U students with money. I'm not exaggerating that we'd go to one of the Clayton breakfast/brunch places after church on Sundays where it felt like 60-80% of the customers were under 25 and we were one of the few families. Plus we'd have to wait for a table. Now they students are less common and we can walk right in on weekends.
I will say the one time we went to the Clayton Rooster the food was good, but there were all sorts of service miscues that happened at our table and with nearby customers. Did they throw in the towel quickly because they couldn't find someone decent to run the place?

I am shocked that the St. Charles location is still open. It is consistently dead, even during Friday nights and weekends. We have so many good BBQ places in St. Louis I think it makes it hard for a middling option to compete.dweebe wrote: ↑Oct 07, 2025Went the Arnold Sugarfire last year and you could already tell things were not good. I don’t know why people don’t realize that downtown Clayton is just like downtown STL but without 600,000 convention visitors, 10,000,000 sports, concerts and event visitors, 9,000 less residents and 20,000 less workers

Uh because Clayton is 80-90% white. It’s always been this. It will always be this.

Sports Bra to go in at 7344 Manchester Road in Maplewood. The space was previously occupied by Boogaloo.
It will have space for 120 people inside and 30 outside. They plan for it to open early 2026.

Damn I was really holding out hope they would end up near Enterprise or City Park
Interesting they picked that spot given The Post Sports Bar is like 150 feet to the west.
Bummer they couldn't have gone into the old Field House Sports Bar by Grand Center. Or somewhere else along Locust.

Might deserve its own thread but Googling for an upcoming trip to Singapore and Bangkok got me to this...

Sounds like Lotawata Creek might be closing for good after their recent "remodel" and reopening without waitstaff.
Change that to "is closing".Trololzilla wrote: ↑Nov 26, 2025Sounds like Lotawata Creek might be closing for good after their recent "remodel" and reopening without waitstaff.

Bailey's restaurants are filing for bankruptcy (but will remain open) and they blame their failed Clayton venture for their setback,
Friends, don't let your friends open restaurants in Clayton.

So the real tea was that they simply weren't paying their rent on the space in Clayton. Opened up shop...did business.. no money for CBRE. From what I understand, the Bailey's chain of restaurants has always been financially mishandled, though. Based on their long track record... they're great at conceptualizing a concept... but frequently terrible with the books.STLrainbow wrote: ↑Nov 26, 2025Bailey's restaurants are filing for bankruptcy (but will remain open) and they blame their failed Clayton venture for their setback,

Well yea they didn't pay rent because they couldn't afford to with disappointing sales.SRQ2STL wrote: ↑Nov 29, 2025So the real tea was that they simply weren't paying their rent on the space in Clayton.
