Friends, don't let your friends open restaurants in Clayton.
They would have paid rent with better sales. It's very straightforward.SRQ2STL wrote: ↑Nov 30, 2025Oh noooooo... no no. That's incorrect. Also...the insanity of what you just said...lol. Rent isn't a suggestion or option. Like what?Auggie wrote: ↑Nov 30, 2025They would have paid rent with better sales. Well yea they didn't pay rent because they couldn't afford to with disappointing sales.
Also heard about "rent issues" with the downtown locations as well. Seems like a mess.
Your original statement: "The real tea is that they simply weren't paying rent." If they had better sales, they would have paid rent.SRQ2STL wrote: ↑Nov 30, 2025That's incorrect. Bridge Taphouse and Wine Bar didn't have an active liquor license for well over a year in 24-25. I'm not sure if they even have it right now.
From what I hear the locations have insane manager turnover. Bridge has had at least eight different manager since 2018, and that's just the ones who's contacts made it into my phone.

Not sure if posted elsewhere m, but Session taco at Euclid and McPherson has closed after reopening this summer. It’s a shame, as that intersection is coming back

They are rebranding to a new concept. It's the same people. Smart I think as the Mission/Session Taco concept is tired

It’s rebranding to Lapaz Mod Mex, their new concept that they debuted in Kansas this yearTheWayoftheArch_V2.0 wrote: ↑Dec 03, 2025Not sure if posted elsewhere m, but Session taco at Euclid and McPherson has closed after reopening this summer. It’s a shame, as that intersection is coming back

Since the renaming Session has been pretty hit and miss with me. We order from them at ITap abd they no longer have the warm fresh chips. They are bagged.
If they want to rebrand I'd start by fixing that.

Channel 5 reporting they are also closing their Town and Country location.
Feel like when they scaled they compromised quality and it’s never been the same.

Since El Burro closed, I think a full Mexican concept can work well
Since reopening, the CWE Mission hasn't seemed to do all that well. Unsure why but it's mostly empty most days of the week. I think the rebrand is a last ditch effort with that space. I can't imagine they'll actually change much of the interior itself, as it's just a few months old but suppose we'll see.
And, yeah, absent El Burro, all the more surprising regarding Mexican/Mission. Perhaps El Burro was mostly packed with underage kids drinking margs?

I thought it was pretty good, stopped in a few times (which it was not busy) but loved the pizza aroma and corner business feel. Solid place and it leaves a hole in a great neighborhood. Awesome building with the green glazed brick and the surrounding old Benton Park buildings and view of the brewery (ignoring the BP and interstate). Hopefully something interesting comes in soon

Wheelhouse shuttering. Had a nice 11 year run.

Great news for downtown, 2 down 1 to go in that area
Meanwhile, Larson is opening a new fast casual restaurant and coffee house in its building and a new pizza and wings restaurant opened this week at Kiener garages

Lol are you suggesting you want Tin Roof closed? That would absolutely be a negative for downtowndbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Dec 21, 2025Great news for downtown, 2 down 1 to go in that area

It’s not like downtown vacancies get filled quickly so Im struggling to see why we are wanting restaurants & bars to close in our downtown that needs people?
Bar closures often have a waterfall effect more than probably any other establishment as well. As one closes, it may drive traffic down at the one nextdoor too. They sort of feed off each other.

We started 2025 with an officer having to shot someone dead at Wheelhouse, it and Midwestern make up 100s of 911 calls, it’s a drain on strained police and ems resources
Just in, a double year-end casualty: https://www.stlmag.com/dining/ben-welch-to-close-both-lucy-q-and-little-lucy-on-december-31/
