St. Louis City SC Strives To Shine Spotlight On City, Midwest
https://www.forbes.com/sites/michaellor ... d99836ac6b
An estimated $3.5 billion in developments have been proposed, planned or are currently under construction in the 2.91 square miles that encompass Downtown St. Louis, with some announced after CityPark was announced.

The Butler Brothers Building, which can be seen from within the stadium, is undergoing a $130 million redevelopment, turning the historic warehouse into a mixed-use complex with 384 apartments. Plans are also formulating for the world’s tallest mass timber building to be built just north of the stadium. A new North-South MetroLink Line will run past CityPark as well.

I hope they built that stadium for expansion, because they're going to need more seats. Three months ago.

I believe that CityPark can be expanded, but really not by much.

I think there's expansion potential for 2,500 more seats. I'm not entirely sure where they would squeeze them in, either.

I was thinking something more dramatic, like a vertical expansion adding another deck. Just raise those pillars and lift the roof up another thirty feet or so. Not terribly realistic, but . . . they need more seats. Or props, really, since no one ever seems to sit.

The thing is I think it's too early to be talking about ripping the roof off the place and adding seats for what might be abnormal demand. We have a perfect storm of new stadium + new team + winning that's driving the tough prices. When you look at the soccer specific stadiums in the MLS, Citypark is not abnormally small.

How many years before I can expect to get $7 tickets with $7 Cards CITY cash preloaded on my ticket?

I know that's a ridiculously good deal, but the current prices are a bit much. I'd be curious to see how demand has changed over time for other MLS teams.

I wish them great success and support for decades to come, but the current pricing is a bit tough. The food ain't affordable either, even by sports park standards.

Was there a BizDash 2022? Or pre-pandemic?

BizDash started in 2016. 2020 was virtual due to the pandemic, I believe the others have been the usual fare.

City SC apparently takes 40% cut from local restaurants at the stadium.

Is the 40% cut the only fees for the restaurant / is that all inclusive for City SC to build out the spaces to spec for each? There's a lot of variables that could really impact if this is a good/bad/neutral cost of doing business for the local restaurants. Like if City SC covers all infrastructure including signage, kitchen equipment, and utilities and the restaurants are only responsible for staffing and their food product, then 40% doesn't seem bad at all.

Oh, I understand it's too early to honestly make that decision, but I'm daydreaming. And I'm hoping that this won't prove to be too terribly anomalous. It might be . . . but I honestly suspect it isn't. Okay, they won't always break records the way the start of the season did, but previous soccer teams have always been fan favorites and I think this one might just take the cake. The thing has legs. (And it uses them well. All of them.)

My concern about a panicked expansion of CITYPARK is that we'd end up in a situation like the United Center in Chicago or FedEx Field in DC where the venue was overbuilt at a time of extreme demand.

They do. The problem with the UC isn't empty seats but that the building is so damn big.

Enterprise Center is lower bowl > suites > upper bowl > sky boxes,
United Center is lower bowl > suites > middle bowl > suites again > upper bowl > sky boxes. Sitting high up in that arena is so much worse.

Not a problem if it still sells out with crappy product on the court/rink

I think its clear they could have gone a bit bigger easily as high as 30k like Nashville, but i don't think its particularly a problem. You could add nosebleeds but I'm not sure soccer or any sport for that matter is particularly appealing from those elevations.  From a fan experience question what do you gain.  I like that the stadium is very intimate and energized for matches.  Reviews of the fan experience are top notch.  Players love it.  Of course that's not necessarily a raw numbers thing its more to do with the thought put into the design and could have had similar effect for more bodies.  At some point though more bodies puts pressure to reserve more space for things like parking which does becomes a problem

The only negative i see is because of size we are probably less appealing for big USMNT games or exhibitions from top tier euro clubs.

If you want cheap seats though, go see City2 for $10 and have great seats to boot.

Yep, I actually sold my CITY tickets and bought CITY2 tickets instead!

It's obviously going to be a very different gameday experience, but my wife and I are bringing our 5 year old, so I was looking for a bit more chill environment with less heartburn if we need to abandon ship early for some reason.

I also have concerns about spending an arm and a leg for my kid's ticket, and then still running the risk that my 5 year old can't even see the match because everyone in front of us decided to stand. Is this a legitimate concern, or are there reasonable accommodations for this? Or, would we just need to abandon our pricey seats for some other (presumably also standing only) vantage point?

A note: I am dreaming. My daydreaming about a bigger stadium is not a realistic assessment. Just a kid going "Woah! Would you look at all those people lining up to buy tickets?" The people running the team are very talented grown-ups. I have full confidence in their ability to create the best experience both on and off the field. They clearly know their stuff.

And when the time is right . . . I bet they'll add more seats. ;-)

The 22nd Street extension is open along with the overpass, so you can enter and exit I-64 from Downtown West without using Jefferson.
