The rumor is a friendly w/Bayer Leverkusen.pdm_ad wrote: ↑Oct 27, 2022Just heard on Fox2 that an important announcement will happen today at 9a at the stadium. New naming rights already? Or something different altogether?

Maybe there's a tip of the cap to a new stadium sponsor, as well?

No. If they had another sponsor lined up already, they would have never announced CITYPARK.

Unless the naming rights won't be activated immediately. Might not have sponsorship $$ available until start of the season/next year, perhaps. Stadium has to be named something in the interim.Laife Fulk wrote: ↑Oct 27, 2022No. If they had another sponsor lined up already, they would have never announced CITYPARK.
Archinect did a write-up on Nashville's new soccer stadium. Ours is much nicer, IMO.

I think CITYPARK looks cleaner and nicer. Geodis looks...."harder". It also reminds me of one of those Euaropean soccer stadiums built/redone in phases.moorlander wrote: ↑Oct 28, 2022What makes ours nicer?

Compare Nashville to this. It just looks "cleaner".

Speaking of Geodis/Nashville they're having Shania Twain play there next summer.

It will be interesting to see if we end up getting any shows at CITYPARK.

I will say that St. Louis in general is a very tasteful city. Some of the stuff built in other cities is very tacky. Even a lot of our modern architecture is usually done in context. That's one area where our frustrating conservatism actually helps us.
You also wonder if they had built Geodis in/by downtown Nashville if they had changed the look? Since it's about 10 minutes outside downtown by a flea market, a race track and backs up to houses they weren't as worried about the exterior presentation?goat314 wrote: ↑Oct 28, 2022I will say that St. Louis in general is a very tasteful city. Nashville’s is nice. Reminds me of an aircraft hanger though.
Had City not built a big chunk of ours below grade it’d likely have a similar vibe.
I do like the white and glass a lot more than the Nashville color scheme though. And obviously our location is way better.

Ours doesn’t look like a corrugated steel industrial shed?moorlander wrote:What makes ours nicer?

Ours looks fuller, thicker, tighter. Some meat on the bones you know. Theirs looks like a good wind will blow it over

+1
Considering all of our other sports venues are par or below par of their similar aged counterparts, this is the first one I’ve felt was much better.
Busch is definitely above average, though parts of it were done cheaply. The dome is obviously horrible and Enterprise is probably still below average even after the renovations. The interior is great but the concourses and the surrounding sidewalks and neighborhood leave a lot to be desireddweebe wrote:Considering all of our other sports venues are par or below par of their similar aged counterparts, this is the first one I’ve felt was much better.

What’s wrong with the neighborhood where enterprise is at? Half a billion development to the west of it, world class venue attached to the north of it, a major transit center south of it and city hall to the east. It’s not like it’s at 270 and 44
While I agree with all of your positive points, a lot could be done to improve the area. Sidewalks look like sh*t and even in other posts you've pointed out how they ignored basic maintenance on the exterior. Maybe that's in waiting for the 'beer garden' in some years. But unless we build human scale reasons for people to hang out in the immediate area, it's kind of drive in drive out (or shuttle out to Soulard). The Municipal parking lot is begging for something of 4-8 stories with a couple of local pubs underneath (think Center Ice Brewing?). The walk down Clark is not inspiring. Lots of streetscape improvements needed. So many pockets to fill in around the immediate surface lots (not saying the are even pitched as being on the market, or buyable, just pie in the skying).
As I digress, I do agree our MLS stadium looks nicer and by far a premier location. And I've enjoyed the streetscape improvements. Everything looks very tidy. Outside of my anger toward 1900 Olive, the whole project has patched a nice hole in Downtown West. I think the transit accessibility for MetroLink riders is great for all of our stadiums, convention center, etc. I think this has provided a lot of positive momentum for redevelopment in the immediate area and hope we can continue to find developers happy to invest.

Now that Jack has a few Musk-bucks burning a hole in his pocket, is "Square Stadium", dbInSouthCity's dream, back in play? Or is Jack blowing all his cash on his new social media venture Bluesky. (notice the word "Blues" hiding in that name. Would Russian players pronounce it Blueski?).

I would bet Jack Dorsey hasn’t even thought about the naming rights to this stadium.
Square is called Block now, so Square Stadium isn’t going to happen…and I’d imagine McKelvey would make that call and not Dorsey anyway.

^To be fair, I think it's just the parent company that's block. They're still using Square to brand their devices, and squaregroup.com still gets you a website with lots of Square and no obvious Block to the casual observer. That said, I'd be inclined to think Dorsey probably isn't the likeliest candidate when he barely even has offices in town. Even out of town companies with a strong local presence like Bayer and Nestle seem more likely. "Bayer Stadium will cure what ails you." (The House of Hurt?) Or the Checkerboard? Anything but Imo's.
^ Good point, I hadn’t realized that.
Honestly I think the best one I’ve heard so far is Chris’ CitiPark. They do have that campus in O’Fallon with some 2,400 employees…not far from MasterCard’s global operations HQ.
I still prefer to see them skip the naming rights and call it Mill Creek Park.

Cincinnati FC Stadium in my opinion is the best. Ours is ok, simple and best thing it was privately funded. But in looks Cinci ia just awesome, specially the outside LED is just unique.

Dorsey has done small things in St. Louis, but he seems to be more interested in being a bicoastal billionaire than anything hometown related.gary kreie wrote: ↑Oct 29, 2022Now that Jack has a few Musk-bucks burning a hole in his pocket, is "Square Stadium", dbInSouthCity's dream, back in play?
