My heart goes out to any pedestrians or bikers traversing that area once complete.

I honestly think that every member of the University City City Council needs to be investigated. Almost inconceivable that this was allowed to happen, the only thing that would make sense is if they were taking bribes.

It makes sense. Our fragmentated structure encourages chasing sales taxes to move taxable sales across municipal borders.

Not sure if this is the latest (or final) plan, but this thing seems to be getting worse. What happened to the hotel? Senior living? Apartments?

Hey look it's a large parking lot with a few small nondescript buildings interspersed. Fun.

Seeing the new Costco gas station rising above The Wall makes me think of some kind of suburban acropolis.

^That Costco is positively an eyesore. It was a rather charming little spot before they tore down everything and paved it over.

More drive to spots coming including a Chick-fil-A with a double drive thru. Just gross. U City should be ashamed of themselves.

238 parking spaces. 0.65 acres of buildings, 3.78 acres of pavement. Never fear there are rain gardens to collect the runoff.

Double drive thru encircling >3/4 of the site. Imagine 61 idling cars tacked within.

What a nice front door. Nothing says welcome to chick-fil-a like a drive through line and garbage enclosure. I can already see people getting trapped because of long lines. Might be fun to watch.

Reminds me of my favorite Starbucks in Affton:

You get a lovely view of... A windowless, featureless wall interrupted only by utility boxes and apparently randomly-placed downspouts hiding behind the drive thru line.

But hey, look on the bright side, according to the meeting notes the developer requested and received a CUP for a verrrrrrry slight decrease in the required number of parking spaces. It's still egregious, but there's that?

Note that the site plans posted above show two different areas. The first is at the southwest corner of McKnight and Olive (north is to the right). The Chick-fil-A is on the north side of Olive, on the western end of Jeffrey Plaza (north is up).

They're repaving and restriping Olive right now, including those oh-so-fashionable double-left-turn lanes.

Should we start betting on which other chain restaurants will occupy the other 3-4 currently proposed drive-thru spots (even more when this is fully built out, I'm sure)? Some form of bingo or fantasy drive-thru game?

As a U city resident I’ve basically chalked up olive as a lost cause at this point. Which is too bad. Basically fast food, gas, strip malls the entire length of it in Ucity. So I’ve come to terms that this is just going to be what it is and hopefully whatever they put in is something I like and will use since it is so close to me.

If they are going to leave Olive like it is, and obviously they are, then I’d like to see ucity give delmar a road diet and add bikes friendly lanes/infrastructure in more places. Let olive be thru road.

^^I hope the Asian restaurants, grocers, retailers, and other services fight that. And fight to stay.

. . . On the other hand, we could welcome them to Southerer Grand. If'n they needed a place to go. (There's already a pretty good little strip of VN focused stuff. Assuming the more Chinese focused business can get along with Vietnamese neighbors. Which I suspect they could. For reasons.)

I mean..I could see possibly, as an attempt at carrying the pan-pacific theme of Olive Blvd, a Jollibee drive-through coming in? At least from a strategy and marketing stand point that would be at the very least sensible and relevant enough. I doubt these developers will have that sort of foresight though.
