I simply can't see the Cardinals spending nearly a half billion on Juan Soto over a 10-to-12-year period, and it's the safest guess you could ever make that Juan Soto isn't going to close himself off to his free agency options, no matter who trades for him. He's looking at potentially receiving the largest contract in the history of the sport.

I could see the Cardinals trading for Juan Soto as a rental. I think that makes some sense for the club. A lineup featuring Edman-Goldschmidt-Soto-Arenado at the top of it would be formidable for a few years and might result in a deep October run or two.

Soto is not a free agent until after the 2024 season.

As for the Blues and Tkachuk, you'd certainly love to see it, but I do worry about the cost.

Lets say Blues send Tank and Kyrou for Tkachuk...

we'd lose 34 goals in Tank, 27 in Kyrou and 27 in Perron this offseason for a total of 88 goals and replace it with 42 goal Tkachuk
I don't think you can send both those guys, unless some additional assets were coming back with Tkachuk.    And we know Armie is peddling Krug's contract already.
You are also assuming young guys like Neighbors, walker, Klostin don't chip in a few more.  we have a lot of young players that need NHL minutes.  Tarasenko and Krug (Perunovich immediately slots in his place) offer enough cap space (14m) to take care of Tkachuk and even a little of kyrou's next deal.  Both those veterans come in for Calgary, offsetting loss of Johnny Hockey and Tkachuk and actually leaving the flames some further flexibility.

PostJul 20, 2022#753

I also think it's unfair to throw in Perron's goal total in there.  his loss was expected and the developing guys are where Armie sees the team making that up - by committee.

Why are we counting goals?

Tkachuk had 104 points last regular season.

Vladi had 82, Kyrou had 75 and Perron had 57. Perron doesn’t play a role in any Tkachuk move so that’s out.

Even if they sent both Vladi and Kyrou (which I don’t think they would) you’re only talking 57 points difference between those two and Tkachuk. Blues have plenty of young guys that could (and should) step up and fill that void.

Thomas had 77 points last season and could easily grow into a player that could put up 90 to 100 per season.

^Exactly.  Let's get er done.

Lot's of moving parts at the end of next year.  Barby, Acciari, Tank and O'reilly UFA, Kyrou RFA.  So I say lets bring in the homegrown franchise piece now.

I love Perron, am completely sentimental and would have loved to have seen him stay to finish here: but that was too much salary to tie up with a 34 year old with concussion history.

Is there any St. Louis sports team that doesn't have horrible owners?

^ The plaza outside Enterprise is trash.

And the City will pay over $130 million in debt payments for a building they generate almost no revenue from.  The least those owners could do is update the pavers and some landscaping.  Maybe a big Bluenote for folks to take pictures with, similar to the giant STL at BPV.

B*tching about rendered street trees aside, the plazas around the MLS stadium and Busch/BPV are actually inviting and look nice (or soon will at MLS).  Enterprise does not.

If I remember right it was $69 million from state, $50 million from city and $40 million from the team.

Almost no revenue from the arena? The Blues keep all the sales taxes? Plus what about all the city owned garages and parking lots? I guess we’re not counting that.

As I understood it they were going to redo the front plaza plus expand the front of the arena once gambling gets allowed: but until then its on hold. But until then the front of the building facing Clark and around the corner to 14th really is pretty bad.

What do the beer garden and new entrance have to do with gambling in Missouri?

^^ No, the city doesn't get much in terms of direct revenue from Enterprise, especially considering it owns the building.  Outside of some sales tax revenue (about $14 million pre-pandemic, which the state actually collects more than $8 million of) the vast majority of building related revenue is funneled back into the team.  And that city owned parking garage ain't paying off $100+ million in debt either.  Is the city parking authority paying Enterprise debt with funds from lots they own nearby?  Seriously asking, because I don't know.  But I doubt it.  Also...$64 million in bond debt from the City.  So once the bills are due the city will pay over $100 million.

I haven't heard a peep from anyone about the front of the building getting a facelift "once gambling is allowed."  Can't find anything online about it either.  Nor does Enterprise Center's website detail anything on their renovation webpage about future improvements.  Including that extremely outdated rendering you shared.  That was an initial idea that was scrapped early on.

Anyway, I have no interest in, once again, trying to relitigate the Blues deal.  The point is that someone saying the front of the building looks like sh*t (it does) is not the same as saying the team has "horrible owners" (they don't).

^ Nothing.  The beer garden was moved inside to the Plaza Level.  The Clark Avenue Club basically accomplishes the rest.  They just filled in the open air atrium instead of building a new structure on the outside.

The front of the building does look bad. One of the worst entrances of any NHL arena I've been to.

But the owners are bad in not doing something to the front of the arena.

Money. Look at what the Cubs are building on the side of Wrigley with their sportsbook.

Blues Hall of Fame should be awesome! I would like to see this in a separate building completely dedicated to the history and former St. Louis Blues players/Hall of famers:

^ Probably because he played his entire career here, was the captain and was a good player until the NHL started enforcing clutching and grabbing penalties. He was good at that. He is also a popular Blues alumni member so I'm sure he has some pull within the organization. I think he is up there for games played in a Blues sweater as well.

He finished his last year with Nashville, still he was bright spot during some of those lean years - Or at least bright compared to the rest of the team in the early mid 00's. He also lives in town still (I think) and is an all around nice guy.

I want to write in Tyson Nash just cause he is hilarious.

He's playing house dad and coaches or cheers on his kids sports. I've seen him at youth basketball and baseball.

Not sure the right thread for this but I used to park in the 18th street/chestnut garage for blues games. Went down tonight and it wasn’t open, said no public parking. Just curious when that changed and if anyone knew why.

I parked on the street in front of it and not having that garage traffic get out worked better anyway, but I was surprised. Thought maybe construction workers but they would be out of there by the blues game.

That garage has never been reopened to the public after the pandemic.

Interesting. I wonder why. It always used to fill up for games.

Are the Blues alone worth a billion dollar stadium? I'd want to see an NBA franchise with them too for that cost.
