Once the Saddledome is gone, Enterprise Center will be the 3rd oldest arena in the NHL.
Are the Blues alone worth a billion dollar stadium? I'd want to see an NBA franchise  with them too for that cost.
No they aren't.

A ton of NHL arenas opened in the 1990s. The only two NHL arenas in "danger" are
  • San Jose because of some layout issues including it's weirdly low roof/ceiling.
  • Ottawa because they made the poor choice of building it in a far west suburb

Also, I don’t think the blues ownership would be silly enough to request anything with Green and Jones in charge. Green nearly derailed their update plans in 2017ish.

Unfortunately, $100 million doesn't buy much for long in today's sports world.

Luckily for St. Louis, Blues ownership is committed to the city and region.

I think the Note will be back in the playoffs in 2024.

I don't think Stillman's gonna be marching into the mayor's office demanding a $1 billion new arena or threatening a move to Houston. Like 18 new NHL arenas came online around the time of the Blues so they're all about the same and the recent $100 million recent reno has fixed what they can.

When the time comes to build a brand new Arena it should definitely be built to house both an NHL and an NBA franchise.  If the city secures an NBA franchise with a 30 year commitment then the time will have come.  Elsewise it makes sense to pay for reasonable upkeep and upgrades to satisfy the Blues but short of some truly major deficiency i don't see building a new venue.

I’ve seen games in St. Louis, Chicago, Denver and Nashville and in my opinion Enterprise compares extremely favorably from the fan experience.  Nashville was without a doubt the worst building I’ve ever seen a game in.  Poorly designed, tons of wasted space in massive and hardly used concourses, especially on the suite level.  I was actually in a suite…awful.  Low ceilings to the point while I was seated at the bar stools my fist would hit the ceiling if I raised my arm in celebration.  Fortunately the Blues got their ass kicked so there wasn’t much celebrating lol.  It was Blake Shelton’s suite too, so I know it wasn’t one of the lower tier ones.  It made Enterprise’s suites look like small apartments.  And the fixtures are way nicer in Enterprise as well.

Obviously Nashville has the better outdoor experience but I was supremely underwhelmed by that building…especially with some of the b*tching some St. Louis folks do about Enterprise.

Chicago’s the best I’ve personally seen a game in so far.  Denver is nice too.

Enteprises front door sucks...the light fixtures on the building are rusting, the concrete is just tired looking on the plaza

United Center is too damn big. It's only 2500ish seats bigger but it feels like a junior version of the Edward Jones Dome in it's size.

But then again you understand why as they built it during the Michael Jordan Bulls glory years.

^^ Like I said, Nashville takes the cake outside. The Blues need to cleanup the plazas in front of the building, maybe have some more events prior to game time. Nashville had lots of vendors, bands, a big SMASHVILLE sign people could take pics with, I was impressed until I walked into the building.

The fixtures have a "patina" and the concrete has "neo-rustic" appearance that harkens the glory years of the late 90s.  Pour some out for Pavol Demitra.

That is all.

I've been to a number of stadiums, and agree that we are on par with Denver (maybe a little better even), Nashville sucks and we still game with most around the league.

The Saddledome was an especially decrepit/arena for some time.  Yes, we an burnish what we have and it will be suitable, without the NBA, for some time.

Investing in the area immediately adjacent Enterprise Center would do more for the gameday experience than replacing the building. It's great to see some energy coming to Union Station, but immediately out the door of Enterprise just seems bleak and rebuilding the arena itself won't fix that.

Nashville’s arena wasn’t built for hockey. The team was awarded after it was built. It’s just wedged in there. I think it was built more for concerts. They don’t even have a proper press box (or didn’t as of 5 years ago). They have people who should be in a press/broadcast box basically  sitting in the stands.

Hopefully, the OYO hotel gets a better flag, operator and a facelift, that would do a lot to make immediate area more inviting.

The Philadelphia 76ers are moving out of the Wells Fargo Center to a new arena in the heart of downtown.
https://frontofficesports.com/philadelp ... ion-arena/

Now the Washington Capitols and Wizards are talking about a move to the suburbs.
https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/washingto ... ystal-city

My point?
  1. my posts up this thread might be wrong.
  2. these mid to late 1990's arenas are starting to "age out" in the mind of some owners. While this is BS, let's not be shocked if this trend doesn't accelerate.

What does two NBA teams exploring new arenas have to do with the Blues?  Seems like it would fit better with the same circular discussion of arenas, their age and their size that takes place every couple months in the NBA thread.

Something on topic regarding Philly:  Rumor has it Philly and St. Louis are working on a big trade, Carolina could be a third team if they can work through Krug's NTC bullsh*t.

Because the 76ers are moving out of a similar age arena that they share with the Flyers and the Capitals are part of the DC possible move.

Third trip to the Classic! - That is pretty impressive since there are teams that have not been to one yet. Next year will be a little showcase for Conner Bedard I am sure - Still good times

One of the claims is that some teams aren't interested in being part of the outdoor games, but that the Blues are receptive.

Anybody know if any St. Louis group has been trying to pull a team in the professional women’s hockey league? They will be expanding and looks like front runners are Pittsburgh and Detroit. No mention of St. Louis. I think we have proven ourselves a solid hockey town in the last 10 years. League is averaging 5,500 a game which is not nothing.
