From the mini series from biz journal comes this beyond dumb hot take

What general consensus? Are the Cardinals, blues, mls, concerts, events at the Dome, union station, city museum etc not entertainment or are they all folding? Bizarre.

The Mayor held her first every Monday morning at 11 press conference to update on downtown progress, the first one was at Whisky on Washington. I believe the plan is for each presser to be at a downtown biz to highlight it.  the mayor spoke, as did Jason Hall and the Director of Public Safety.    There was no violent crime incidents in downtown this past weekend and Jason Hall spoke about the huge success that the Geospatial conference was.

So what's going to happen next with Reign after the event that was shut down on Friday? Is Dana Kelly going to keep pushing the issue with more events in the future?

There wasn't really an event, it was 20 kids age 16-20 and bike cop showed up and told everyone to leave and everyone left before it even started.  there is a hearing regarding Reign later this week. The building will be boarded up next month for a year.  Now the building owner may (i suspect will) try to get the City to unboard it after Reign moves out there stuff but generally how this works is the City doesn't care about the tenant/owner relationship and the building is unusable for a year but they make an exception here

a lot has been made about Reign being behind on rent, well thats like any restaurant in 2020. they signed a lease in 2019 and couldnt open until late 2020 nor could they apply for PPP because they had no previous revenue to show loses.  They had a payment plan set up with the landlord but the City i think pressured him into taking it off the table.

Another thing addressed was the big car drag racing event- it was apparently a planned event that drew douchebags from all over the region, it started in north stl and got broken up and drivers went to other parts of the City.   Arrests have been made and SLMPD is monitoring social media to ID leaders

Do you know what’s the plan on Poelker Park?

I went yesterday and fed some of the homeless. The elders were nice and all they wanted was help! They younger ones just love trouble.

With a guy guarding the back door with a gun? That doesn't add up at all to me if it was just kids.

Yeah! There’s a video and the guy had an AR-15.

16-20 years is kids and young adults if you will....
whats the problem with someone having a gun?  everytime Cardinals play there is like 5,000 guns sitting in parked cars all over downtown.

Dude guarding a door with an AR-15 is not the same as guns locked up in cars.

Tho I'm not a fan of concealed carry and would very much prefer people didn't bring their guns with them downtown or anywhere in the city or county....  But that's another topic altogether.

Take it up with the Missouri legislature that made open carry permitless.   What’s a officer suppose to do to the guy at the door?

And I agree, 5000 guns in car is much worse. At least nobody will try to steal an AR15 from someone’s hands

Yeah, I know.  No solution there.
dbInSouthCity wrote:What’s a officer suppose to do to the guy at the door?
Fair point.  If it's legal to guard a door with an AR-15, which I'm guessing it is if one has all the necessary paperwork, what can they do...  Just, disconcerting to see an individual guarding anything with an assault rifle in my opinion.  It sends a statement that they feel it's necessary to do so in this location.

Yep.  Gotta wonder how many times a gun stolen from a Busch Stadium lot over say the last 20 years was used in criminal violence.  I'm sure the number would be depressing.

That’s the issue tho, there is no required paperwork, I can go buy one from my next door neighbor as a private sale, neither has to report anything, there is no background check and then I go stand down at the front door of my building showing off my new piece. None of this is normal but it is Missouri

Bringing up guns in cars at Cardinals games is a red herring argument though.  (And yes, it is a huge problem in my opinion if it's a source for people to steal guns...) But that has zero impact on Reign and Dana Kelly.  I'm just surprised that Reign was brazen enough to try and host another event.

This event didn’t have anything to do with Reign. It was a private party and they thought they can still lease the space as a private party. Kelly wasn’t even there or aware that her GM allowed this group. Bike Cops came, ended it before it started and that’s the end of it.

I'd be curious to know if alcohol was going to be served on premise, and if so if it was going to be purchased through or from Reign (even if Reign wasn't going to provide servers).

I know we're not going to see eye to eye on this, but if the event was going to be held at Reign's space, and it was booked through Reign's GM... then yeah, it had everything to do with Reign.

Just because you can have an AR-15 outside the building doesn’t mean we can’t agree it is still a bad look. Especially when there is already criticism around Reign.

Something can be legal and also a bad idea.

Right, just pointing out the limitations that SLMPD have thanks to the state of MO being f'ed up

anyway- there is a lot of planning happening right now (literally, i am ease dropping on my partners call in the other room) to bring more people and events to downtown this year.

This place was always packed! I wonder what happened between them and the landlord.

From KSDK

Caleco's Bar and Grill in Downtown St. Louis closes, will auction off memorabilia

"We have been a staple in St. Louis for 47 years," a statement from the restaurant's owners said. "Several employees have been along the ride for 37 years."

Obviously it was many thousands of dollars behind in rent.

There has to be more to the story! That place is always packed! Bad management if rent was due or something else. At one Cards game the wait line was an hour 45!

I remember eating there once sometime around 2010. I was sitting next to an aquarium with a large fish in it that appeared to be in very poor health. It was strange.

So out of the two Kiener garages, we are down to only one corner retail spot open out of eight (Hooters) and a handful of smaller things open in less prominent spots.

Maybe this will be the push the owners need to at least spruce the garages up
