That website said that same thing, with the same number, in 2020. Hence the opening paragraph "St. Louis is a city located in St. Louis County Missouri. With a 2020 population of 294,890..."
Wikipedia is using that same link as its source, which is weird because that edit skipped the the official 2020 number (that hasn't even been released yet). I've also never seen anything other than official United States Census estimates used as a source on Wikipedia...
