The corner of Delmar and De Baliviere, ca 1952. I didn't realize how much had been lost; nice to see so much coming back now.

Wow. Great photo. That 6-7 story warehouse at Kingsbury & DeBaliviere would be nice to still have around.

Interesting to see the Talayna's/310 DeBaliviere and DaVita Dialysis lots were pretty empty back then.

The density just south of the bus depot was insane. Still apartments today but so much lost

No, that's Kingsbury Square townhomes.

Not a lot of height, but that street wall along the Northside of Delmar was solid.

^What happened that they clearcut Westminster and Kingsburry? And most of McPherson. Geepers. I think I dropped someone off over there once. It depressed me how cheap it all felt next to what you would expect in that neighborhood.

Does anyone know when and why all those apartment buildings West of DeBaliviere were torn down? Each street shown would be as dense as Pershing if they existed today.

^Great picture. I wish it had proper credit. Having looked it up, it appears to be a part of the Missouri Historical Society's collection. They have this to say: "Train pulling out of the Wabash, Chicago-Kansas City station at Delmar. Photograph by W.C. Persons, 1920s. Missouri History Museum Photographs and Prints Collection. Transportation. N38742." I believe it's specifically E4 or E4s class WRR 605, though it's hard to make out for sure. That would make it a Baldwin product of 1904 rebuilt (presumably in Decatur) to add superheating in about 1924 or so. The s in E4s designates "superheated." They were basically the same class of locomotives, but after the rebuild you got the S on your [valve] chest. I don't know that they all got the treatment, but it seems 605 did. Could also be 603, but the story remains much the same either way. Wabash E4 class. Baldwin. 1904. Rebuilt in Wabash shops in '24. Handsome locomotive. Hard to beat a good Wabash face.

That's a great location. Hopefully some multifamily or at least row houses go in as opposed to detached homes.

It's zoned D and not very big at 41x130. Hope they understand what the River Des Peres may mean for them.

Interesting. Hopefully any developer takes advantage of the density that D zoning allows for. I wonder why the previous multi-family on the site was demoed.

Any chance some retail could be supported here?

By customers or by neighborhood NIMBYs?

PostJan 23, 2021#271

I don't see anything there in 1958. If there was, it was probably demolished due to the River Des Peres or due to its burying.

A nice idea, but the existing retail storefronts around Greg Freeman Park/Four Corners have always been mostly underutilized, except for Joe's Cafe/Bill Christman's studio and the offices of the Neighborhood Council/Times of Skinker-Debaliviere.

What might the RDP mean for them?  Not sure what you are saying.
