Awesome! This wasn’t on my radar. Big lot. Would be nice to see an apartment go there. I’d love to see a bit more commercial in the middle of the neighborhood, too. But I know that’s a tall order.quincunx wrote:Closed Feb 12thquincunx wrote: ↑Jan 23, 20215953 McPherson empty lot at Des Peres sale is pending

^ speed humps do a reasonably good job of slowing traffic right near the humps, but drivers still tend to speed from hump to hump unless they're spaced very close together (and they usually aren't because resources). unfortunately, the tradeoff is greatly increased traffic noise, especially for those who live adjacent to the speed humps. with every passing vehicle going into the hump, you get a maddening pitch drop that accompanies breaking, along with a tangible rumbling from heavier vehicles. and on the way out you get to enjoy the explosive sound of acceleration, hole-filled exhaust systems, and artificially amplified exhaust systems. and don't forget the "kerchunk" of cars and trucks taking a hump too fast, and the subsequent scraping of undercarriage. we have a speed hump directly in front of our home, and this is precisely the problem we're having. the perpetual noise is literally driving us out of our home, which we love, and which we've been in for the majority of the last 12 years (with the exception of 2017 & 2018 which we spent in St. Louis). anyway, we're going to be selling our home later this year because the traffic on our narrow residential street has more than tripled due to a bunch of sh*t strip mall development nearby and we're literally, clinically, losing our minds from it. anyway, my point is just that closing and opening streets and adding speed humps and removing speed humps and reconfiguring this and that all amounts to just moving deck chairs around. as long as the population continues to grow and every individual insists on driving around in a personal tank, things are just going to keep getting worse on average. /end semi-daily car rant
I forwarded this to the alderwomen. I agree the noise is maddening. It's the best part of snowy days is the reduction in car noise.

^ah, yeah, the recent snows were wonderful...
thanks for forwarding. i doubt the alderpersons will give any thought to the ravings of someone who doesn't even live there anymore, but if they need a name attached to it i can contact them.

dilettante, what you describe here: and don't forget the "kerchunk" of cars and trucks taking a hump too fast, and the subsequent scraping of undercarriage. I find that to be a rather joyous sound. Drivers going too fast and paying too little attention getting the bottom of their car smashed in is a sort of bonus feature of speed bumps.

i mean, i agree that it's joyous in theory, and if i were king i would install all kinds of physical barriers that completely f*ck up your car if you drive irresponsibly. but the joy kind-of gets sucked out of it when you're forced to listen to it all day long. we have a small, wood frame house about 25 feet from the street. the speed hump bisects our house. there is nowhere that we can go in our house to get away from the f*cking sounds and the rumbling, and they're nearly impossible to block out due to the frequency range. our living room, the largest room in our small house which faces the street, has become completely unusable. i have to wear earplugs nearly all day long, every day. it's f*cking miserable. and the sh*ttiest part is that it was nothing like this until about 2 to 3 years ago.wabash wrote: ↑Mar 05, 2021The additional access at Clara is a plus.framer wrote: ↑Mar 05, 2021Only 2 votes for Opening Vehicular Access. ^ Yeah I have to agree. While listening to people f*ck up their undercarriages is always a fun time...if you were trying to watch a movie in your living room and every 15min someone is losing their oil pan...that would get old real quick.
I lived in KC’s Plaza for 13 years. It was a fantastic neighborhood but every weekend we’d get over run with a**holes from Johnson County revving their crotch rockets and muffler-less cars. It sucked. Add in the religious a**hole every Sunday with the megaphone...the Moorlands is basically paradise.

^ the undercarriage scraping is relatively rare compared to the engine gunning noise, which is basically every 15 seconds.

Good stuff! Seems like a no-brainer that the next block to be developed will be the parking lot immediately south of the Winter Garden buildings.
The Waterman bridge over Metrolink will get some repairs starting Monday.
If only we had a street grid that was resilient to a closure, this could get done more quickly.

We have a contractor getting ready to start work on a contract to make repairs to seven City bridges, including the Laurel/Waterman bridge. The work at Laurel/Waterman consists of removing all of the asphalt patches and replacing with concrete, and then placing a sealer afterwards. We had planned on having the contractor work on 1/3 of the width of the bridge at a time, in order to keep two-way traffic open throughout the repairs. Doing it this way will take approximately 4 weeks.
The contractor has proposed shutting the bridge down completely, which would allow them to get all of the repairs completed in about one week.

Awesome! This is a great step for the neighborhood. Will make it much easier to achieve the many goals in the neighborhood plan.

The vacant lots of 5806 and 5808 Westminster were bought by Paton Redevelopment Series LLC which is registered at a home in North Pointe.
Wish the sidewalks would get redone around there.

Wonder how soon they plan to build infill. Probably safe to guess they’ll go single family as opposed to a multi fam.quincunx wrote:The vacant lots of 5806 and 5808 Westminster were bought by Paton Redevelopment Series LLC which is registered at a home in North Pointe.
