The Landing certainly has its share is crappy sidewalks already, specifically on the E/W streets. I believe they are converting the road into a two way. I'll miss the wider sidewalk but I don't think it's the end of the world considering the lack of retail fronting the sidewalk.

I am assuming that there will still be lighting at the completion of the project. Lucas ave was extended through the parking lot primarily to improve connectivity to downtown, it only makes sense to make it two way through the length of the road all the way to LKS. 

Plus the smooth blacktop road would provide a much smoother ride into the Landing for bikers and the ever lucrative "pack of tourists on scooters"

As somebody whole uses the Landing multiple times a week as both a pedestrian and driver, the significant improvement to the current traffic flow situation outweighs the minor loss in pedestrian infrastructure.

Walking?  We don't want people walking around the Landing.  

The idea is to make sure that everyone can quickly and easily drive right up to the front door of their destination to unload the weakest members of the herd, and then make the dash to safety from the parking lot across the street.

Wouldn't this be the one of the new river cruise boats? Have they started regular service or maybe test run.  Maybe one of the four they plan at docking in Alton.   Anyone with some knowledge.   

The bow end looks kinda funny for embarking and disembarking but probably more useful and less intrusive while steaming up and down the river then the old riverboat wheelers that had the gangway raised up into the air and then lowered when needing to get to the riverbank.   However, the old way looks better and more majestic in my mind vs. the modern version above.

I don't think it's exactly that easy to get to the riverfront, though.  You have to walk several park blocks just to get there.  Maybe if they were docked more at the Landing than at the Arch.

Also, maybe petty, but how are these sidewalks in the Landing legal, ADA wise? Especially in the past when the streets were in poor cobblestone form.  I'm not versed on all the specifics, but after reading about the Foundry sidewalks, it has me thinking how inaccessible some of the Landing has been for anyone in a wheelchair.

That's historically how riverboats embarked and disembarked on the Mississippi Riverfront. Part of what made traffic so bad and generally a clusterf*ck down there.

This could be a game-changer for the St. Louis Riverfront. 

I just recently took my daughter and wife to the newly renovated Arch grounds, and, while the park itself is beautiful, it's pretty obvious that the areas surrounding it - particularly to the north and to the south - are lackluster. But what's also lackluster is the area between the Arch and river, where the steps are. 

If you add 5,000 residents to Laclede's Landing, and a few thousand more to Chouteau's Landing, I'd think you could have a more special experience between the Arch and the river. 

Maybe the floating McDonald's even makes a comeback!

Long overdue with regards to the Landing. It was once the epicenter of STL nightlife. I think music venues can bring life back to the entertainment piece of the area. People will help obviously.
New residential development would bring new people.

I hope the area can finally live up to it’s potential.

I guess it depends in part on which seven properties they have under contract.  If they're purchasing some of the larger vacant buildings, like the ones near First and Ashley, that could have a big impact fairly quickly.
Can't wait to hear what they're buying and if they have any plans for new construction.

The warehouses that I think you are talking about are for sale by the McGowan brothers, so I would expect those to be part of this project. There are three of them. The Hoffman and Greeley buildings were already announced by Advantes. Next, I know that the Traders Block was for sale as well as the old Extreme Institute by Nelly Building. So these all total 7 buildings. 

I would think infill would be included to better connect the 3 warehouses to the casino and the Landing. It would seem like an Island. The infill I see are smaller commercial and residential buildings. 

I do wonder what the plans are for the Cotton Belt Building, if there are any. A woman named Justine Petersen owns it.

^ the Justine Peterson comment! 😂😂😂😂 JP is an economic empowerment organization.... it picked up several buildings in the area a few years ago and already has opened a food incubator in the warehouse building on Broadway next to the lower-end motel by the casino.

I'm sure they are in discussions... the developer says their plans for north of the casino are centered around the Laclede Power Building, which is owned by GRG and at the head of the Riverfront Trail. Getting that building back in action along with the warehouses across the street to join the Sweet Foundation Building redeveloped last decade would be really awesome with just that collection of buildings, let alone what else may come with any infill and trail/geeenway amenities.

If the vision for the of the North Riverfront comes to fruition, I honestly think that the Rams departing for LA will prove to have been a blessing in disguise. All the amazing buildings were doomed. Can you imagine another ugly ass Dome (or a modern equivalent) surrounded by a sea of parking lots in place of these beautiful urban structures with unparalleled Mississippi River views? In this case, we dodged a bullet.
