Isn't St. Louis already on a top ten list of some sort for most green construction? I'm glad we're getting more, though. Does it cost a whole lot more to build to the standards of green construction?

So is this project dead or still in the works?

Glad to see that there seems to be progress on the project. Still, I find that tower horribly ugly from the rendering, and I can only hope it turns out better in reality. Plus, they need to remove the ugly sign on top of the building - I think it will look even worse when lit up at night.

Just because their website is still advertising this project doesnt mean it is still in the works. I have heard nothing since the first lost tour.

It's a nice looking building, but I doubt it will show up on the skyline if it's only 25 floors. Roberts should make this one 35 floors.

I like the fact that it's a green building, and I like the design. It looks cool. Though I wouldn't mind a few more floors.

It looks like a parking garage.

The rendering makes it look like it's half built..

Maybe it's just the view, but the very small pic on their main company homepage makes the building look a lot more sleek and modern.

It's a nice looking building. Very European.

We discussed the merits of the design earlier in this thread, but I might as well throw my two cents in again...I like the design very much. One of the more progressive-looking buildings to be proposed in St. Louis in quite some time. I hope it gets built.

Isn't this latest rendering different? Driving through downtown yesterday it was glaringly apparent how many new buildings there are. It struck me that everything was 1900-1920 or 1960-1970.

Building design: Fine.

Signage: Tacky as hell.

that will all change once BPV is completed... Unfortunately that will be several blocks of all new construction. I wish we had a greater diversity of intermittent buildings (new next to historic).

I heard a rumor that Rollin Stanley took the Roberts bros. on a tour of Toronto in hopes of getting them jazzed about modern architecture.

Perhaps it's true. Perhaps it worked.

There is a couple story outside elevator now on the southside of the Mayfair Hotel, and, as someone previously pointed out, no parking on that lot north of the Old Post Office. There is also some work being done near the foundation of the Mayfair Hotel.

Does anyone have any information because this is movement that we have not seen since.....

PostJan 11, 2007#218

I meant to say that the outside elevator was on the southern portion of the eastern side of the Mayfair Hotel.

Sorry.

Don't have any news, but when i drove by last night there were the two drills you alluded to. They weren't big drill like would be drilling for real substantial piers, but they appeared to be drilling for something up against the current building. Looks like we may finally see some real progress, but I'm not holding my breath.

And are you saying there is a construction elevator up, because that could possibly mean some work to the existing Mayfair.

I read today that they were starting a renovation to the interior of the Mayfair and that would explain the elevator. However, that does not explain the lack of cars on the lot and the drills and other stuff near the base of the Mayfair.

BJ today says the roberts started a 9.5mil renovation of the hotel, and will start construction on the new tower this spring.

OT: The same article stated that the Roberts have plans to TEAR down 921 and 923 Locust for a new infill development. Plans to be released sometime 07.

Today, I talked to some construction workers on site and they said the two small (relatively speaking) drills there now are taking core samples for the new tower. They did not know when ground breaking would be as they said that was up to the engineers.

Ugh - that design looks like it's a 1970's florida condo tower - no thanks. I'll take something with lots of glasswork please, especially in that area which has lots of worth views.

I like the sign a lot though - but it needs to be cut down. Way too wordy, it shouldn't be more than 2-3 words
