Hi everybody, my name is Brad and my partner Doug and I are two of your new neighbors at Bankers' Lofts - thanks BL211 for telling me about the blog tonight on the phone!
Doug and I are moving into unit 204 - the front corner (with the "pot rack"). We are very excited. We've already lived downtown for almost three years in the King Bee Building at 1709 Washington. If you saw the USA Today article on St. Louis w/ the gay boy and the dog a few weeks back...that's me. We are thrilled to be flipping up into the new building. Our final walk thru is June 6 and we will move in the following Tuesday, June 13.
To any of you who are anxious about the decision to move downtown - STOP. Downtown is a great place to live and you're making a FANTASTIC investment. In less than 3 years our current loft has appreciated by almost 50% - if you've bought a loft downtown you've probably made one of the best financial decisions of your life.
It was terrific to read thru this blog this evening and get up to speed on the experiences you've all been having. For what it's worth, having been thru the building process downtown once already, the Bankers experience sounds above par. Doug and I have stayed pretty zen and removed from the building process this time around, and from what I could tell from a quick look in April I think our place turned out well.
To address some of the things that came up in the blog earlier:
Our retail - never heard about the Fridays (eww), but have heard there is paperwork on a spa to be on the front, west side of the building.
Window treatments - we are definitely getting them for our 2 bedrooms. The "romance" of the large windows is fully justified, but in May and June when the sun rises at 5 am, trust me, a little control of light is no crime against the architecture. We'll also have a "darling" street light shining in from 9th street...
Uprgades, pricing, measuring square footage, etc... I've heard a lot of tales of lofts so far, and again, the Banker's experience sounds pretty standard. It's painful to watch those upgrade prices climb, but you WILL get every penny of it back and plenty more - so take a deep breath, swallow hard and just let time do its magic...
Also, I'm the president of the downtown St. Louis Residents' association, a nice bunch of folks that get together for happy hours, talk about their lives downtown, ways to improve things, and essentially share our love of being in the city. I hope that some of you will consider joining the group as you move into the Bankers Lofts - the website address for dslra is in my signature box, check it out! We'll have a booth set up at the upcoming Loft tour and we're having a group-wide meeting June 8 - looks like it'll be at Tanner B's.
I'll shut up now. See you all at home soon!
Brad
