“Shadowland,” a vampire movie shot in St. Louis with a local cast for less than $1 million, opens at the Tivoli Theatre July 24. Miss Missouri Teen USA 2000 Caitlin McIntosh of Washington, Mo., has the lead. St. Louis-based production company Pirate Pictures filmed it in Webster, Clayton, U. City, Old Town St. Charles and South County.
The trailer for "Up in the Air" is online. I notice a lot of STL scenes in the trailer as well as brief cameo of a friend of mines at the security line (0:29 secs as Clooney's character pulls out the boarding pass). Can't wait to see this movie!
Two studio films shot in St. Louis , by Oscar winning directors, will soon debut. Hopefully this encourages the State of Missouri, and the rest of you, to support your state film industry.
I liked it, too. Neat to see locations in St. Louis when they were supposed to be in Detroit or Wisconsin or somewhere else. Good movie in general, would have gone even if it weren't filmed in STL.
I just saw the movie and really enjoyed it. I thought it was a very creative concept and liked the way St. Louis was featured. I was a little disappointed to see how little filming was done in Lafayette Square. I was hoping they would spend some more time down there, considering how much hoopla was going on down there the night I met George Clooney.
I caught a glimpse of him down there and never posted the pics. Here they are:
I know they could have found a more Chicago-like house than the one they used. The kind of victorian homes you see in Lafayette Square, are not very common in Chicago.
I was watching the trailer for a movie called Logan and saw the Hi Pointe Theatre in it. Does anyone know if the entire movie was shot here? Or did they just use the Hi Pointe because it's an awesome theatre?
Doesn't look like an exceptionally good film, but who knows. The main lead boy seems like a decent actor. Cool to see the Hi Pointe in it.
Imdb lists the following locations in the production notes:
Fox High School, Arnold, Missouri, USA
Mary's Sweet Shoppe, Imperial, Missouri, USA
Price Memorial, Eureka, Missouri, USA
St. Louis, Missouri, USA
Further research indicates this is either funded or influenced by the Christian faith. Which might explain the excessively hokey themes in the trailer.
"Director David O. Russell and Vince Vaughn will definitely team up for the upcoming project titled Old St. Louis, the story written by Russell, and produced by Vaughn and his sister Victoria.
We must agree that after a few years of comedies it would be interesting to see Vaughn jump into something that sounds like good family drama.
Old St. Louis is the story of a traveling salesman who has been an absentee father, and how his life changes when his daughter becomes part of his life.
Vaughn would play the salesman and it has been mentioned that Kick-Ass star Chloe Moretz could play the daughter."
Anyway, I know about this latest project, and its not yet confirmed whether it will be shot in STL, if the story has anything to do with St. Louis, or anything else. The tension of not knowing is painful. David O. Russell is an interesting person, so I hear, and as you can tell from his resume ["Three Kings" (George Clooney, Ice Cube, Mark Walbergh), and his soon-to-be released film, "The Fighter" (Christian Bale, and Mark Walbergh)], among other things.
So anyway,
Hopefully they do shoot in the city, as I'm sure most business owners in town would be very cooperative. As it seems, St Louis seems to understand what Missouri doesn't: investing in film isn't just about the immediate impact, but it involves the marketing and advertising the film does for your area, in the long term. A good movie can market your city better than any tourism commercial.
What a movie does in your area, while they shoot, are the crumbs of the result. Once people see the film, and your area in a positive light, they know about your area. Improved Film Incentives can encourage the film industry to come to St Louis, and shoot films here.
To be quite honest, of all the states in the midwest, Missouri, Indiana, and Ohio (which may soon change), are lagging the most behind. Even yet, Indiana still managed to bring in 2 major motion pictures (Transformers 3, Nightmare on Elm Street), thanks to northwest Indiana , which borders Chicago. Illinois, and Michigan, lead the way in midwest film production.
You can take what we get, or you can push for more.
Daniel Day Louis was in Springfield touring Lincoln sites. If this film is shot in Springfield, it could employ and contribute quite a bit into the St Louis economy, in addition to Springfields.
