...they are hopeful of getting tax credits from the state of Missouri, like the funds that benefited the production of "Up in the Air." But shooting on the East Side, where Illinois seems more willing to work with filmmakers, is an option.
Well, we've seen this episode before. In an election year, when outstaters are barking about tax credits, there's no way Nixon's office approves more than a quarter of those requested for filming in St. Louis.

A new book set in StL. How cool!
Do we have a book thread on the forum for something like this?

"While writing “Where We Belong,” best-selling author Emily Giffin referred time and time again to a photo of a modest house on Eichelberger Street in south St. Louis.

She took the picture on her BlackBerry during a weekend visit here. Giffin was in town to construct the world of one of her most compelling protagonists yet — Kirby, a bright but isolated student at Bishop DuBourg who works at Schnucks, watches movies at the Tivoli, dates a guy from Chaminade and reads the Post-Dispatch."

Maybe in the near future, and super cool if it happens...

I was just listening to the Dave Glover Show, where they were interviewing William Knoedelseder, the author of Bitter Brew: The Rise and Fall of Anheuser-Busch and America's King of Beers (which I haven't read yet but have heard huge accolades about from former employees of AB). At the very end of the interview, Knoedelseder said that he has sold the rights for his book to be turned into a TV show / miniseries. While no plans are set for the story to be developed just yet (and therefore no timetable for any release possible), the purchasers are noteworthy:

AMC and the production group behind Mad Men.

The Brewery very well could be the next big AMC hit. Good times.

Update for Jennifer Lynch's A Fall From Grace:

The IMDB website for the movie is: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1621415/

Among the Cast & Crew listings are: Tim Roth, Paz Vega, Vincent D'Onofrio, Daryl Hannah, and Cedric the Entertainer.

Music by Trent Reznor - HELL YEAH!

And I guess they have their funding: Filming is shown scheduled to begin May 2013.

New netflix House of Cards - was written by Beau Willimon - who's from St. Louis. They actually briefly visit St. Louis in the show, not sights or anything but this comes up.

You ever been to St. Louis before?
Just the airport.
What do you think so far?
Well, I've only seen your neighborhood
and whatever I could see out
the window on the interstate.
Good enough. It's all pretty much the same.

St. Louis really needs to be explicitly shown, not that lambert gives you an opportunity to. But it seems no one in film and television knows what to make of St. Louis, it's always referenced in an under the radar non-descript kind of way, and its anything but.

Someone needs to put St. Louis out there, I'm looking forward to Jennifer Lynch's film.

Jennifer Lynch's film had best not just portray the city the same was as "Vacation."

St. Louis needs its own John Hughes, actually, who can make something for this city like what John did for Chicago in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" (and most of his films, really).

Hey, "The Soul Man" season 2 starts in June and "Masters of Sex" (set in the 1960's) starts in fall. Most of all, however, we should be excited for "DEFIANCE." STL in the future inhabited by aliens? Awexome.

Yeah I hope not either but hopefully her film will get things rolling for St. Louis as a setting at least.

I tend to think we need our own Woody Allen, a real champion of the city. Defiance looks cool but the only thing that remains from St. Louis is the Arch. Still, I'm grateful for it and hope it does really really well. Hopefully with the arch grounds renovations and Defiance we can see a real jump in visits.

But St. Louis needs a romantic comedy, maybe now that the Office is ending Jenna Fischer will get us one.

Interesting perspective Arch. While I look forward to the Lynch progeny's film I am worried from a PR perspective of how a crime drama will affect STL in regards to actual crime statistics in the area. The problem is that without other information to go on the average film goer who hears a blurb about our city being "one of the most dangerous" will have little else to base an opinion on the city. Sure, Chicago has been the focus of countless news stories involving senseless and brutal murders. But on film that city has been host to comedies as well as gritty dramas.

Most big budget romantic comedies are set in either NYC or LA (occasionally we get a setting of Boston, San Francisco or the aforementioned Chicago).

And without saying most of those films are craptastic.

Now an independent or quasi-independent and less formulaic comedy could be just what STL needs to broadcast to the nation. I'm thinking something along the lines of "Sideways" (which led to whole busloads of tourists hitting the central CA coast demanding any local wine besides merlot). I guess a plot involving a weeklong bachelor party revolving around area brewery trips would be a bit too familiar but I think you get my drift.

My dream is to see a cable series filmed and set in STL. How realistic that is regarding cast schedules and production crews being in town for a whole series--even a shortened cable one-I cannot say.

I love sideways, its been awhile since I've watched it. Something similar set in St. Louis could definitely work. We should kick around some ideas and come up with something.

Maybe a guy trying to get his craft brewery off the ground and some women in town for a bachelorette party for a friend relocating to St. Louis.

As for a television series I'd love to get something on netflix, I think they're going to constantly be on the hunt for new content with how people binge on series. Maybe that'd even be a good destination to stretch out and explore a sideways-esque beer series.

And seeing as how they release an entire season at once it might make filming cheaper, I'm not sure how filming schedules and budgets work, but its just a hunch. I think we'd certainly be cheaper than the coasts.

Sweetie Pie's has people from around the country flooding to their Grove restaurant. Now every time I tell people I'm from St. Louis they say "have you been to Sweetie Pies" or "I wanna go to Sweetie Pies".

"Identity Thief" takes place partially in St. Louis but was filmed in Atlanta because Missouri wouldn't help pay some of the film's budget. Here's what St. Louis looks like in the film:

Also, the TV series "Work It" was a VERY St. Louis show, but only 4 episodes were produced and 2 aired. It is not on DVD. However, you can find it online. It was a sitcom last year that was canceled because people thought it was offensive. One of the episodes that was never filmed involved the characters trying to meet David Freese. I think they chose St. Louis as the setting because the show is about cross-dressing and that scene is huge here.

I recently received an e-mail from Jay Nixon saying that Missouri will help pay for the budget of "A Fall From Grace" and it will begin shooting this autumn. David Lynch co-stars.

really? the cross-dressing scene or the drag queen scene? the latter implies the former but not vice versa. anyway, just wondering... i have a hard time believing the scene is that big in STL but I'm certainly no authority.

I'm no authority on it either, but I had a co-worker who certainly was and told everyone all about it. Seems legit.

Sorry for the double post.

St. Louis has become a "gated community" in a way. Some of our present-day buildings are still standing, but are in ruins. Grant, the hero, was born in St. Louis but moved away during the wars with the aliens. In the 2040's, he comes back and finds that it's now called Defiance.

I still think me and southsidepride's craft brewery netflix series would blow all these other projects out of the water.

But I'm glad to see things moving along again, hopefully we can get those film credits back, which should really go to me and southside for our 5 season 55 episode series.

I am hearing some sad interwebz reports that Masters of Sex will be filmed in L.A. (not that surprising) and that the setting for the first episode(s) will be Columbia University in New York instead of Wash U (surprising).

Check out the great shots of St. Louis on this 60 Minutes preview which will feature Jack Dorsey this Sunday.

Also, I've been very close to starting a "Jack Dorsey news" thread on this forum.
